Title: Try clip-on's
Post by: 2Twin on January 26, 2004, 11:08:52 PM
You could try online wreckers from countries that had clip-on's. I wanted to put on motorcross style on mine which had clip-ons and a board member here was gracious enough to do a straight swap so it cost only about 10 -15 bucks freight from states to Australia.

I was wondering if a Suburban Machinery Type 2 would work with a Givi A755 fairing.  Not sure if the master cylinder would get in the way :(  I do need to get a new pair of bars one of these days, but don't want to have too extreme of a position.

you can get low rise bars. they raise 1 inch and have a 1 inch pull-back. These are the very ones on my bike.

Well that's not bad at all!  Where did you get yours?
Of course, we all know you posted just so you could show your bike off    Making our bikes feel like old rusty neglected things

Do either the SM-1 or -2 bars require the bar ends to match the weight of the stock handle bars? I wouldn't mind getting rid of those ugly things.

Those look like the dirt bike bars I fit on my Virago. Aluminum too. I bought the MSR dominator, and you get the cool dirt bike chest cushion and bar with it free, you unbolt it and use it for some else cool in case you need it later... and it costs $40 at your dirt bike store.
Cool.

I don't think they're necessary... haven't had any vibration problems or anything funny with my SM type I...   My bike got knocked over last year and the bars were bent and the bar end was jacked up.. so I couldn't have put it on the SM if I wanted to... only problem is that I put the new bars only a little bit before winterizing so maybe I haven't ridden enough to notice any problems... couldn't you just buy some fancy lookin bar ends (like the LP ones) if you want weight but just think the stockers are ugly???? thats my guess....

Bikemaster bars are a cheap and easy replacement.  The position is a more aggressive (clubman) or less than the sm/srinath bars (drag bar, superbike bar).  You can find them in many local bike shops for $15-20 or online at azmotorsports (among others):

I'm just going to copy what I said in the last handlebar post ;)
I bought them from a local shop and didn't pay full MSRP.  I also have found that I like the riding position.  My wrists do get a bit fatigued on a full day of riding but its not bad.  Get used to squeezing the tank with your knees with lower bars.  It helps :thumb:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have the Flanders Drag Bar and its a very nice piece. The chrome quality is top notch and it is a thick walled tubing. I have only LP Aluminum bar ends (not much weight added) and I don't notice any annoying vibrations in the bars. They clear the tank from lock-to-lock.

The ones I have are part #650-04041. They are the Wide Center with 30* pullback. I had the Third Eye bar end mirrors for a short while and those cleared fine also. I didn't like the bar end mirrors because you have to look down too far to see behind you. They also didn't work all that well anyway.
It is E23 on this page

http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportDrag/78DragBars.html

I used a tape measure from the end of the bar to the respective side clamp to get the bar on center. When I take it off, I use masking tape to help save the locations. I position them so the angle of the guages match the angle of the bars if you look from the side.

You know... all the websites have stuff on rise, pullback, etc.  Unfortunately, it's hard to imagine how each of the bars would be while riding.  :dunno:  I guess get the tape measure out, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Well, I sorta found the answer to the measurement bit.  Hope this helps if anyone has a question.  The page is for cruisers, but most bars should be measured the same.

Hi Guys,

I'm brand new to this forum and this is my first time using it. I have a 2004 GS500F and need some replacement or more aggressive handlebars. I can see the SM ones but they don't seem to be made anymore and I'm in the UK so any help would be great. Thanks!
