Title: Which headlamps will fit the stock GS500E mounting brackets?
Post by: chuffs on January 24, 2014, 08:40:34 AM
So I'm doing some work on the bike and the headlight mounting bracket doesn't need replacing, while the headlight assembly does. From what I've seen there aren't that many aftermarket options for a gs500e, other than dual headlights. Personally I like routing all the wires through the big headlight casing. So I was wondering if aftermarket headlights for the SV650 will fit?

Bump as I still need to know. OEM parts are too expensive

7" round headlights fit. Or any shape as the brackets are about 7" apart.
Problem is some don't have much space inside for all the wires, so it is like fitting a 400 pound woman into size 6 spandex.
I buy lights4all on ebay from Germany. There are lots of headlights available.

As it stands the GS500 headlight is the hot ticket for almost all naked conversions. The MZ crowd has picked off a lot of GS500 headlights off ebay after I (stupidly) posted on the mz site ...

However I have on the past on a nighthawk S matter of fact used a yamaha xs/xj series light - easy to spot on fleabay, almost all post 85 yammies are 5.5". So pre 84 and its 7-7.5".

Another option and it has been used by the werase - and it looked a bit like kermit the frog, but the looks grow on you - is the 8" from a GS1150.

Then there is the twin light conversion. The 7" headlights are no that hard to find new on fleabay, they were made by emgo @ on time. I had someone turn up with one of those, I had to mod something to fit it on a GS ... cant recall what just now. Wasn't too bad though.

Cool.
