Title: tracking down minor oil look - should this hole exist?
Post by: Arudinne on January 26, 2014, 01:29:27 AM
Hey guys, so I noticed a small amount of oil on the ground of the kickstand side as I was about to work on the carbs on my girlfriend's gs, I think it's a seal somewhere. Just wanted to know if this hole under the sprocket cover above the shift rod hole should exist? Pic attached

see the hole ? forget it.

sometimes the chain will shed some lube and appear to be an oil leak, usually by the stand

I don't think it's chain lube as It's been a while since the chain was lubed because it's barely been ridden as It's a project bike I've just about finished.

The oil spot was actually about a foot in front of the kickstand or so.

I'll clean the engine a bit tomorrow and see if it makes another mess.

Good to know that hole isn't an issue.

Thanks!

i believe it connects to the starter valley, meant as a kind of drain in case water infiltrates the starter cover.
