I went straight off the wiki/forums and bought NGK Iridium IX plugs. Part DPR8EIX-9. The top looks like the plugs on an "ordinary" automotive spark plug.

However, the connecting tip is way different than the current regular plugs (DPR8EA-9). Notice in the pic below that is has a threaded/knurled post at the top. When you put on the connector on, it makes a sort of "click click click click" noise until it is firmly connected.

Am I missing something here? I tried to test fit the connector onto the Iridium plug but it didn't seem to fit.
Undo the thick tip bit, I think they just screwed on over the thin thread

Spot on! It unscrewed right off!
If ur old plugs pulled out with out that tip on , it means its stuck in the cap.
You can either remove it from the new plug and put it in or have hours of fun trying to remove it out the cap so the new one fits.
Motorcycles don't use the larger screw on cap thingie. It is more of an automobile thing (or maybe a bug bike, but not us)
It is not stuck in the cap. We don't use it. Always has to be removed from spark plugs.

Thats interesting to know , never really paid attention to it when servicing my bikes however i rebuild small single cylinder honda 4 stroke engines such as the gx160 as well as small capacity 2 stroke engines and the caps are left on the plugs on all types of engines i work on. And as you say in the car trade. Just funny ive never noticed on bikes .
My bad sorry if ive misguided some one
