I tried to ride my bike home today and was very suprised to find it spitting gas all over my shoe and leg. When I looked I noticed a piece of the petcock was out. Hey! That same thing happened to me last summer on the way to a job interview. It seemed to me that it was due to a failed flat o-ring. I couldn't find one to replace it, so I just got some marine grade JB Weld (it said safe for gasoline or something similar) and stuck it back on. Stable from mid-June onward through a 5 hour ride to and from Bike Week.
Yeah I finally figured it out and used a "paper gasket" or whatever it's called that is safe for gasoline and jammed it back in

For a more permanent repair next time, you can use red Loctite threadlocker. Put a dab in the grooved channel while the elbow is off, smush the elbow back in (gentle tap with a hammer helps) and then put a drop of Loctite on the outside seam.
In the future when you remove the fuel lines for repairs, put the wiggle force on the line and not on the petcock.
