Title: 2004 gs500 starter clutch
Post by: rmckinley on February 22, 2014, 04:36:17 PM
So my starter clutch went out a good long time ago and i've been away for a while. So heres the deal, When I opened the bike up and looked-- the starter clutch was all kinds of beat up. Looked like a small munition went off in it. The gear behind it spins in any direction and the stator hub wont come off with a gear puller. I can't find a gear puller anywhere that will get behind the starter clutch gear. Does the whole thing come off in one assembly? I can't find any pictures or useful videos on line and I don't have a repair manual. I know theres a lot of fouled up hardware in there, I'm just trying to find out how much of it has to be replaced so I can put it all on order.

All the best,
Russ

You do not use a gear puller. You need to make a magneto removal tool. The Haynes, Suzuki and Clymer manuals all show variations on how to remove it.

How to take it off demonstrated here:
