Title: Nut cracker

Seriously thought I had done damage.

Two weeks or so I've been walking around with that all-too-familiar pain only us fellas can get in the guts.

I thought it was because being a new rider on a 2003 GS500, I was a little choppy on the gears and the brakes, and perhaps that slid me into the fuel tank a bit.

My learned rider mates say squeeze the knees -- which I haven't been doing. Yet to see if that fixes my problem but hopefully it will should I stop treating my future kids current home as a pillow to sit on.

One said he slapped some STOMP Grips on the fuel tank which helped that problem. Has anyone here used grips? I haven't seen them on the 500 and thought perhaps they were made for sportsbikes.

Guts still ache, by the way. Couldn't finish a run today.  :-X

Slide back a little on the seat.
Seems you're squishing your junk on the tank.

LOL at this thread... I've never had this problem... I mean, its not a 'crotch rocket', and seating position is rather upright.   :dunno_black:

Maybe the PO is well endowed?

...and don't wax or armor-all your seat. Slippery seat = sliding into the tank = smashing your junk

Cold tank is freezing my ball sack. Them when i get to work and get off the bike
My freezing balls now freeze the tops of my thighs lol
Never had this with any other bike just the gs

Are you sure you didn't hurt yourself doing something else?

Is the pain in the dangly parts or up into the interior?

You might check where preload is set on your rear shock. A high number will tip things forward a bit.

I used to think I needed some kind of pad for "personal protection" when I first got Pokey up and running, but I think you naturally start to move around on the saddle with more time in it. I've noticed now that I've established a semi-conscious saddle placement pattern:

Normal/Puttering - In town up to about 50 mph. Upright, knees relaxed, butt resting midway between the front lip and the pillion lip (roughly)

Getting on it a bit/curvy time - Having established it's time to get away from an impending case of gridlock or having found some twisty-elliptic road gold. Forward into to the tank more, knees tighter, leaned forward. I think I spent too much time like this when I first got the bike. I had a bit of crotch unpleasantness at that point. Road imperfections helped me to learn when it was NOT a good idea to be in this position.

The Highwayman - similar to previous with exception of butt moving back and heard further down (I have no windscreen).

As stated earlier, loose pants save bawlz. I would add that a good boxer brief that lifts and separates junk from the thighs while allowing room to breathe is beneficial (take it from a bicyclist - pull 'em all the way up and aim the cannon at 90 degrees).

The further you sit back...the greater the space between the "gentleman's area" and the tank.  This means you develop a lot more momentum, and a lot more impact to the "area" when you bounce forward.

If you sit up front, with your junk up tight against the tank..It can't slam into the tank, because it is already against the tank....

Also, arrange all the naughty bits correctly in your drawers BEFORE mounting the bike.....A bit of "anti-Monkey Butt" powder goes a long way to keep everything smooth and cool down below.

I'm with twocool on this one. I sit with the boys right up against the tank. I also never miss the opportunity to stand up and shake 'em out at a stop light. Y'know, just to give the people behind me a good show lol. I also have a more aggressive riding position with the rearsets and bars that I have, so my dangly bits don't get smushed as hard by the tank.

Had only one instance of this, and its due to my own stupidity. I had a 74 yamaha where you couldn't  lock up the front tire in the air, so first day I had the GS I was goofing off in a parking lot seeing how fast I could stop the bike, needless to say the back tire was up in the air and I was in a world of pain.

Haven't had an issue after that though.

When I first got my GS I asked the same question here. My nads get sucked into the stinky abyss like they are riding on a treadmill and my pork gets folded and smashed down and to the left . It only happens on my GS. Never had the problem on any other bike. In a way I feel proud my junk has to fight with my GS. Most dudes here don't get it :dunno_black: The only relief I get is when I wear heavy, loose fitting jeans.

hahaa I custom painted my tank. has poly clear on it, It's super smooth and slippery.

I ordered tank knee pad grips the other week for nut cracker reasons. When wearing pants no matter how hard you squeeze in there's no stopping sliding forward under brakes :D

The angle of the dangle is equal to the heat of the meat as long as the mass of the azz remains constant.

I think the problem is due to the slanted position of the seat and the vinyl it's made of. It's just set up like a sliding board I guess. I quit squeezing with my knees because it makes my hip joints hurt after long rides.
