OR icould do nothing pending resolutionof the procedures. could be up to 6mos. Any advice would greatly be appreciated .

Aaron
I would follow your surgeons advice as much as you can mentally stand it bro! .... The better you treat your foot post op the better the recovery ....
You know your own limits with doing things around house ... Use whatever method of moving around put least impact on your recovery ...
And really.... If I were you I'd ask at your church maybe ... Or any friendly locals otherwise ... Some people to drop in here and there to just see if you have things that need assistance... Not so you don't get any peace and quiet or they feel it a chore .... But have your little support network handy..
Or ...... (And somewhat tongue in cheek) ... Contact the cable tv people.... Encourage them to do a mini show... A clean livin boys' struggle with diabetes and his place in the community! .... TV shows are real good at pickin up the tab for stuff!! ;)

eh no problem bro!!... better out on the page and not cluttering up your head eh? ... its a way of calming the mind too... write the minds turmoil down, on paper or e-diary ... dont matter if you never refer to it again.... the brain can convince itself that the memory is 'stored' elsewhere and doesnt need to keep popping it up for you.... works on most folks... :thumb:
mind wont be cler anytime soon i don think, giving away most of my posessions cept for the goped and huffy.
Even if imrendered a monopod, might be able to ride. if it doesnt heal, not much can be done.

Geez tough breaks bro! .... Well .... As you know I'm not a churchy person.... (Don't have issues with any that are though... Each to their own) .... However ...
Best wishes and positive thoughts to you brother! ... :thumb:   :)  :thumb: !!!
My ex and her mum were diabetic ... Her mum started having similar but less serious problems ... So I have a very slight idea of what you must be going through...
Eat as healthy as possible!! .... Whole foods and herbs, honey (yeah I know that's a tricky one for you, it's a hectic natural antibiotic style thing though) as much nutrition loaded stuff as you can... You're body has gotta be having a tough time as it is... Processed stuff right now is not ideal :thumb:
Correct on eating REAL food. You need nutrition - not bulk calories from processed food stripped of all nutritional value for the sake of shelf life. Canned stuff not good. Frozen is OK if you can't get fresh.
Real fruits and vegetables. Real meat.
+1 on honey. It is also good directly on wounds.
You are what you eat.

living on very, VERY tight budget atm eggs alot eaten, still protein deficient , pot pies etc and peanut butter. this will have to do until work is found. even in cast for the near future , going to have tofind work, then getting into raw veggies and fresh fruit. that i desire. :icon_mrgreen:

get some seedlings bro!! ... dont have to be fancy garden beds or containers either.... even a cleaned paint can with reasonable dirt and some cheap fertiliser will do!! ... got old worn out boots and shoes? ... perfect herb pots!! .. lol
grow your own isnt instant ... but before too long you will have something! ... and the satisfaction of crunching into your own handywork is great too!
this guy is 'pretty fancy' with his gear .. even though its recycled pots and stuff...
but even if its winter ... you can still grow some stuff inside in a sunny window or something... just make sure you wash all the dirt and 'germs' off your hands afterwards .. you dont want to promote more infections eh!
plus its something that might give you some easy access 'activity' to help with the boredom! ..
positive thoughts at ya bro! :thumb:

wore out my armpits learnining crutch use. slighly anemic,i had passed out after clinic today. took crutches and did laps down 30' hallway .and adjoining dining room.every time doc says "i was going over your test results and ...." iwant to say IM PREGNANT!or something. wished id have found out these issues earlier.
course prior to jan 1 iwasnt insured. and the almost wagner4 toe ulcer wasnt anything.and i had no problems. these problems cannot be undone . progression can be slowed though. one thing i forgot to ask doc about is thehard time swallowing food sometimes . guess its ok.
besides , makes me look fwd to fresh fruit like kiwi, or peaches even more.

I will disregard docs orders and attend church. our building is laid out like a donut. sanctuary in middle, classrooms in outer ring. I get stopped every 15 ft ppl asking whats going on. although out of 15 door openings, I only had to get one. was offered use of the wc. but declined. I can make useof crutches when need be. if I have to go shopping I MIGHT make use of the courtesy cart. idk. anyhoo 8am I go to Knoxville to ut and get it worked on yet again. will do my best to get copies of the pictures.
Aaron
found a Fujifilm s1600 on ebasy for 81 shipped. going to try and get that so I can work, making money on ebay. doc demands me off feet. getting to point where I cannot argue with her on this. this is my last opportunity to remain a bipod. will try and update the foot thread tomorrow afternoon.
Aaron
seems I don't have lupus. thank GOD. that aside, why does legs still feel horrible, re casted Monday. putting pressure on toe to left of great toe. and fell forward up the stairs twice. after doing laundry in basement. every time they put this tcc-ez ( cast on I have to re learn how to walk. sister parked about as far away from door as possible. baah gotta love obamacare though this 400 dollar visit was 6.08 cant wait to get back to work or go to work selling on ebay. cannot stand being idle. addy if I were closer id assist @ the cave.
Glad it not that lupus stuff bro!...
A thought.... While you got leg in cast, get some of the church members to bring your washing machine up out of basement?? ... Jury rig it anywhere on upper level! .... Save yourself more falls and stress pressure on leg eh!
too much hassle on the washer. I was considering asking the bishop for a BIT OF financial help but I stopped. felt bad for thinking about it. ive been out of work since jan 14. there are folks whove been unemployed far longer. if not lupus why do I still have a rhematologist appt. I mean this check list crap is getting old. its like so it aint this, what about this one?, no? okay, how bout this one. etc etc etc etc etc . put me on HBO waiting list. ( HyperBaric Oxygen ) chamber. 6 month waiting list. surgeon says I may be healed before then. but might as well set you up. that one I dontthink I can do cause it requires daily visits. Baaah back to postwhoring. just for shits and giggles. may get this cast and take it home when they put the new one on next monday
well... if not financial help .. then at least someone to pop in every couple days?.... anything need doing? ... :dunno_black:

we are strict as far as help goes. we try to help folks and help themselves. its not instantaneous. ( im lds/Mormon) we wont be an enabler. that aside we do help when its warranted. which in my case I could say it is. but ther are procedures our bishop has to follow. which I think he is doing. got my orthopedic shoes today. could only test the right one since left in cast still. selected ones that are similar to dress shoes. so I can use them at church as well. next time I get some will grab a more outdoorsy type. got them from Hanger orthopedics&prosthetics. may paint the cast black to match the shoes or at least look close in colour anyways lol
3rd wee4k of inactivity. got bored lol right leg is essentially healed. but remains in a compression stocking for near future. will have to order those at some point so I can do that at home. the left toe ( great toe the would is around a 1/2" round by roughly 1/2" deep. but slowly healing. rheumatologist visit yet to happen I think scheduled for mar31 I forget . ill check

good to hear you on the mend bro!! ..

next on fixit list is skin grafts and then HBO. ( hyperbaric oxygen therapy) if that is called for I may have to rent a room near hospital on bus line. cause it is a daily thing. I live as the crow flies 35 miles one way. cheaper to live there. for the short term. if I can figure out how to cover cost, I may look into renting an apt foir a month at the university of tn Knoxville campus
A couple of items here...
1.) Wow Yama, you got a heck-of-a-lot going on there. Do keep this thread rolling with updates.
2.) Would it be acceptable for a Mormon such as yourself to be included in the prayers of a practicing Roman Catholic?
(Yeah, I know us RC's are not the most popular lot on the planet but heck... Seems it cant hurt any. Eh?) :dunno_black:
Later bro...

Hey man reading your thread here and it's been a tough road good to see you are doing better. One of the things I read in your post was sticking to one energy drink a day that worried me. You need to give that shaZam! up man. I ended up in hospital with chest pains because of energy drinks and caffeine. I love my coffee and I even stopped that until my body sorted itself out after giving up the energy drinks I recon it took 3 or 4 months before all the symptoms of the stimulants went away and 6 months before I drank coffee
Those stimulants are a drug and screw with your body in a serious way
I'm far from some health crazed hippy I love my food and meat and am a little on the large side
Just drink water and a lot of it you will be surprised by how much better you will feel if you drink at least 3 litres of water a day you might pee like a race horse but it's good for you
Those drinks are pure evil
Keep up the good fight man your body is just a machine an incredible complex bit of kit but just like any other machine you need to service it properly and for people that's good food and plenty of water and exercise if you can
That's my 2c worth but I had to say it I have been laying there scared for my life all because of those drinks and I didn't know better.
Some people spread the good word of their perspective god I speed the word of not putting this crapola in your body.
M
Not to hijack Yamas thread.. But marcusk ... I believe that the taurine in the energy drinks is the worst bit... Your perspective?
I've been hooked on them before also.... Up to 7 a day so I could feel normal... I cut them right out for about a year....now I have one sometimes on a ride, or long truck trip... But not like before.... I ended up at doctors but not hospital.... Complaining of feeling twitchy in chest and hard to sleep.... Asked him for sleeping tablets..... Didn't get them.... He told me to think it through why I wanted tablets...
I cringe when I see young teens going into the supermarket and grabbing 4 large 500ml cans though....
Funnily enough the 250ml and 500ml have exactly the same taurine in them (I think this is the bit that really speeds your mind up) ... And the less popular 355ml cans have more taurine than the other sizes!..
Now I like telling the kiddies just what the taurine is...... Basically a bulls liver extract ... Liver juice....
Not only redbull uses taurine though... Most of the majors do...
With my 'extensive testing' and noting how much of which ingredients were in various brands .. Made it easier to see which ingredient had more effect
Finally.... In Aussie .. Don't know if they have it overseas? ... MOTHER energy drink .... That's one I can't drink.... All the others just amped me up.. But Mother would send me into something like a roid rage every time.... Dunno one of the preservatives or something.... But I stayed away from it.... :thumb:
Thread Hijacking is not all bad. Lets continue...
A while back the Monsignor (HMFIC) at my parish said that it was OK to be a hypocrite and attend church.
The congregation cheered!
So yeah, after 30 years I'm finally comfortable at mass.
Energy drinks...
I'm in relatively good health for 58 but energy drinks do worry me. I guess in a pinch they can get you through a difficult day, but not as a daily practice.
I'm thinking Janx would know a lot about pushing the "stay awake" limit to the extreme.
Just a guess.
Maybe!
I do know where the line is too.... Looked back over my shoulder a few times and said oops
Yeah can't be sure what the key ingredient is I think the combination and the amount is the killer. I was doing about 4 mothers a day and 4 or 5 espressos. Throw a little life stress in the mix and your in trouble. I found the energy drinks amplified the stress at times and at others it would help with it but it's crazy stuff.
I remember when I could have a can of mother then be asleep in an hour now I'm back to base line if I have a coffee after 4 pm I can't get to sleep.
Plain and simple they are just like any other thing in life moderation is probably the key but I would say 1 every couple of,weeks would be as far as I would go again.
I know what you mean about watching kids buying this stuff it worries me to kids need to go back to steeling beer from there parents much more fun.
M
pic of toe to come about 8pm its the semi healed one. im still at least 6 weeks of being cleared to work yet minimum, they discussed skin graft and HBO ( hyperbaric oxygen) pic will be posted but under an NSFW url. not posted directly. you are forwarded. if stomach is semi weak or worse don't open. other one I have is uglier. after the surgery today it was worse looking. who knows. long time til im on feet again lol. C'est la vie :) energy drinks in semi moderation ofter vtach episode.

somewhat. where the wound is I cant feel much of. but mainly from belt line down it hurts. been this way for mos. actually a few years. but 6+ mos on a significant level. the diabetes slows down healing. not stops it. the pvd/pad slows down my circulation, so htat as well kinda hurts healing too. :/ I use the crtutches, at church, and out shopping or at the docs or at stores etc. the cane around house. aggravating at times lol
Dang bro!! ... That's a hectic toe! :icon_eek:
Zinc tablets perhaps? ... Non medical opinion only of course
its healing lol :)_ prolly 6 more weeks of healing before im released to work :(. no worries though its all good.
Looks like final week of cast. Then into the ortho shoes. Toe is closed. Well 99%. So this is good. :woohoo:
Hell yeah on healing up mang! Hope it keeps going well for ya
Indeed I gotta get back to work
DAM*IT I think kidneys shut down again. ( first time was in 07) in 4 hours maybe 2 oz maybe 4. but in last hour MAYBE a weak sprinkle nothing more. da*n. didn't want this to happen.
Off to the ER I go :"(
You have been keeping hydrated though right?
YeAh.problem resolved. Typical upper uti stuff
Busy day at doctor. great toe is all but closed. im off cast. pics up later. depending on mood. ( long story there)pics will be posted tho. if theyre not too gnarly. doc who had cancelled the TCOM test, ( test to see if HBO therapy ( hyperbaric oxygen chamber) would be a benefit. it will. last ditch to save right leg. left is good right which I thought was good, is not. they want me to go to 30 daily HBO sessions at 3 hours each. I live 35 miles from the hospital. goin 70 round trip sucks. I am really REALLY broke. buit if I don't go. I risk losing leg. so I must. I have to figure out how to afford it. leg muscles have wasted away. re learning how to walk. this is fun lol. but anyways I thought id update yall on this. I want to get back to work. am so far beyond broke lol cannot get financial assistance unless im homeless. :technical: my mind is thinking bad thoughts lol. any7hoo back to happy thoughts Eh?, will try to get pics up tonight. hadn't sold my camera yet so I can still upload them. don't have the droid razr activated. using it as a camera, the vivitar as my main camera, the Samsung galaxy taB 2 FOR EBAY WORK. still gotta repay bombsquad, among others here. don't worry guys, im trying to figure this out. I WILL take care of yall even if I have to disregard the take it easy orders from surgeon.
Aaron
Taking care of your body needs to be your number 1 priority. Follow all the doctors orders, and forget about paying me back! I know you desire to pay, but it's not worth it to beat yourself up.
got to get back on my feet though. ill do it, as easily as possible. i.e without too much wear and tear. feels weird. bak on 2 feet without the cast and boot. at the hbo test. was a tad painful specially after 15 minutes of pure oxygen. I see them again in a week. I see my GP tomorrow. ( breathing difficulties. btw if any of yall ever start smoking , ill kick your ass. this is what caused those issues. just have to figure out how to work again and keep docs happy. my fanclub named bill doesn't understand lol. I need to get back working so I can get the startup capital and start selling watches and thigns like that on ebay. woint take much I don't think. but. I want to pay you back first. bombsquad. seriously. bothers me that I haven't. it WILL be done. that is why my firend it is out here in public view. versus a PM ;)
Aaron
Gotta love it when surgeon sends me home with lidocaine unofficially. helps to numb the affected area. had to return to doc today due to difficulty breathing lol. the COPD has gotten progressively worse. I called him and said I hate to bother yall but I cannot breate easily. he said come on in. I did. the bronchitis and emphysema at same time suck. BTW if I find any of yall smoking, I WILL kick assthese complications WILL kill me. if you insist on smoking , DONT. use an e-cig instead. COPD sucks. kills sleeping ability. that aside, cast is off. walking is nearly impossible. but doing my best. Got dropped off on South gαy st and walked around. was painful but had to exercise my legs. went inside the TN threatre. the GM there loves giving informal tours. next week after my 3rd doc apt, going to go again with camera and film it. it is BEAUTIFUL. but either I have to get into a wheelchair or back to crutches or a cane. I have no stability . my legs are about as stable as Syria right now.
Proud of your continuing determination mang! Take it a day at a time and keep them legs moving as much as the doctor allows!!
Agreed. Gonna try goin for walk tomorrow
Learned something new today. Do NOT fart in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Youre in a chamber which is airtight and pressurised to 2.5 atmospheres @100% oxygen. Lol :embarrassed:

pressurized at 2.5 to 3 atmospheres. The air scrubbers are mediocre at best
No, I think what he's saying is he opened his poop shoot to push an air biscuit out and because of the pressure in the chamber the opposite of a fart happened (lets call it a traf). The oxygen rushed in, not out, effectively pushing the methane cloud back through his digestive track up into his mouth.
A mouth fart if you will....so, how did it taste?
You are lucky your head didn't pop.

That was 8:15am woke uo when they removed the ventilator tube. That was 9:40am. Out of day surgery at 11:25am, in the hyperbaric chamber between noon and 2:45pm. All in all it sucked but turned out well

today got that cane made. I embraced my inner mcgyver. the handle was part of a prosthetic leg., the shaft/frame was from a homelite weedeater, and the base was a Honda cbr600 piston. and a piece of tire under said piston ( from a bicycle tire) to quiet that pig down lol. actually a lot sturdier and lighter than what im used to using lol

the toe is healing albeit slowly. foot remains swollen lol :(. right shin has a slight staph issue. working on that. as it goes, im on the upward trend though :). may use my cast boot to keep pressure off of left foot so swelling goes down. doc recommends anyhoo :thumb:
Complex situation.
Thanks for the up-date though. :icon_confused:

pretty much a not do it, but a guess it might help. I go see wound care tomorrow where these will be examined in detail. I fell pain in the tow knuckle when it bends while walking on it. hence I asked them about the boot ( the charcot boot )
found a segment from a prosthetic leg on ebay. may adapt the cane at somepoint, the handle I grabbed from a toolbox at work, ( at a pawnbrokers. ) theyd not be ablke to sell that, kinda weird to have. like pornography, it WOULD sell, but cannot adbvertise. nor display. so I relieved them of the issue of displaying the prosthetic piece. I attach this to bottom of cane, if I want to weird them out.

ive got the tube from a prosthetic leg already as the handle, the carbon fibre tube, as the shaft in place of the aluminum one, then find a foot. but HERES the thing. I want to see if there are any engine parts from Patrick usable for this ( but not roadworthy. ) mainly a gs piston in place of the cbr piston. idk if Patrick collected parts like that. I knew he had engines among other things.
May use the wheelchair for a while. lost tendon control of left leg last night. I fell twice. about every 5 to 10 steps. will end up taking this with me Tuesday to ut hospital. cause walking is slightly risky now. until they fix it.
updates to come. cane getting redone. a patent application on certain section :).
