hey guys,
i've just done an engine swap and now in the process of trying to start the bike.
the engine cranks and we've even gotten it to "half-start" momentarily by starting it without the air box. when i say half start, i mean the exhaust momentarily started shooting out air like it was about to start.
the battery power is good. the wiring is good. the fuel is good. what could it be?
any clues? suggestions or advices?
ps. if it matters, i have a k&n lunchbox filter, unfortunately i still need to rejet the carbs though.
You have new plugs ? Could be those new plugs.
You have connected everything correctly ? you got the ground cable on ? How about the auxillary ground ? I am leaning toward electrical ... of course your air screw open enough to let in air and fuel ? You have fuel line connected right ? have new gas or crappy 6 month old gas ?
Cool.
Buddha.
I've found you don't need carbs or exhaust or even a frame to make a motor run.
You do need the electricals connected.
What about the timing pick up? Is it the same? Or did you switch from dual to single or single to dual? (which doesn't work)
We need more information about what you did - what year motors you swapped, etc. What year is your bike?
Hey guys,
Thanks for the reply.
Here's whats been done with the bike.
Prior to the swap, everything was running. We didn't touch the screw for the carbs or anything else. The electricals are done correctly as the bike is cranking. The main issue is the fuel delivery from the carbs to the engine.
We have a full battery, spark plug test passed, There is carb going from the tank to the carb (we did drained the bowls twice)
If we were to cover (put some back/suction pressure(?) to the air box, the carbs actually attempts to deliver fuel to the engine as we heard it sputter.

That could very well be your problem. If you're jetted for the stock filter and now running a LB, then you're going to be running a super lean mix to the engine.
Tried starter fluid? Should be good for a second or two to know motor is OK.
Do you have the correct timing pick up and rotor for your electricals? As I recall, one motor was dual pick up and one was single.
Have you checked float levels?
Did you turn on the fuel valve under the tank?
Are you running on reserve so the float bowls fill up?
Are the 2 fuel lines correct? (they should not cross over each other)

we tried the oem air box and that didn't work either, although you may still be right. i forgot to mentioned that the pipe was also cut just before the exhaust muffler, so right now it's running on open pipes.
