Freak accident.
Unfortunately, people will go into the "Oh, we must do something so it doesn't happen again" mentality.
People can not accept a one time accident and always feel they must do something. Look for weird chopper laws in the coming weeks that make no sense.
People do the same with guns. "Gun free zone" - yep - only crooks will have guns because they don't follow the law and there will be no honest, armed people to protect you when the criminal enters with a weapon.

Yep... Kinda reminds me of my job. At least once a month someone's freaking out saying "oh someone stole one of these, we need to put them in vaults" (those hard plastic boxes that can only be opened at registers) when A: it's a relatively low theft item, B: it's high volume so it would be a pain in the *** for the cashiers, stockers, and customers, C: I'm more worried about the liquor, meth ingredients, crack cutting ingredients, electronics, pain pills, etc. than <insert low value miscellaneous item>.

[not to belittle the incident] s*** happens. It's only if it happens often that you have a problem, and it's only effective doing something about it if you can't get more out of putting the same resources towards something else.

Gun free zones are there to impose bigger sentences on people that are armed in those zones. But yea, its an invitation that says ... hey defenceless victims here. Though I should say a school being gun free makes sense cos 90% of the occupants can not be armed ... they're under age.
Cool.
