hey guys, i have a 1996 Gs500, bike runs and rides fine appart from one thing, full lock the the left is fine, about half to the right the throttle sticks like a Buddha Loves You, i've lubed it all up and still sticks, do i have it mounted correctly? i have it coming out of the top section of the frame, inside the fork, behind the headlight then up to the throttle? this is how the bike came to me so im not sure if thats the stock route for it or some morons before me.
Choke cable goes around front of left fork and when I put bar risers on the choke cable was pulled open and raced engine at right lock.
Here you can see how one goes.
Maybe your cable is getting pinched or needs lubing.

A note ... Under the tank .. Where the cable goes over/under? (Can't remember) cross bar of frame ... There 'should' be a fairly large adjustable cable tie thingy .... If that tie is too tight 'so the cables are held down nice and snug' .... It will pull the throttle open a little every time you turn the bars to the right!
The tie should be loose, very loose! ... So you think 'well that isn't real doing anything anyway!' ...
I think it's more there as a way of holding the loose bundle 'roughly' in the centre as it passes the cross bar... Unless anyone else has a valid reason for the location and looseness?
.... Oh yeah... Ask me how I know this?! :icon_rolleyes: ;)
Edit ... At least I think it was pulling the throttle .... It may be that it was pulling the choke as gsJack said!! ... Either way the tie needs to be loose!
i already cut the ties because they were fairly blooming tight and put new ones on just incase that was the problem, didnt solve anything, and its not the choke, i know that much for sure because i tried full left and right whilst the throttle was off the bars hanging lose, im going to syringe it up with some more lube tomorrow see how she does, fingers crossed it wont need anything else.
So the effect was still there when the throttle was loose and bars were turned?? Or the effect was not there?
Make sure you are using dry lube. Cable specific lube would be the best. Otherwise it will gum up. If it is only when the handlebars are turned to one extent or the other, it sounds like you have your throttle lines pinched somewhere along the way to the carbs. If you have bar ends, those could be on too tight and making the grip stick to the bar end and not return the throttle. However, sounds like you tried it with the throttle completely off the bike and had the same result. Keep us updated.
yeah ive had the throttle completly off and its fine so its not the choke, ive syringed it all with some cable lube, still sticking, i gave the cable a check over and there was a little tear in it and the innards had been scraping against the cable, when full left it streached it out so nothing was rubbing but as soon as i went right it kinked and got caught, just ordered a new cable, that should do it, thanks anyways guys :P
Glad you got it all figured out and the fix is on its way. Nice job.
On a sidenote to adidasguy....
I really want that seat on the yellow bike......please tell me more about it.
