So since i last used my 2007 bike from putting it away last year, i have installed a slip on Yoshimura exhaust, a K&N lunchbox filter, brand new spark plugs, and new 20/62.5/142.5 Mikuni Jets. After putting the bike back together, starting it, and letting it warm up, the idle was high(as expected) so i turned the idle knob on the bottom of the carburetor to lower the idle. If i turned clockwise, the idle would immediately increase and if i turned counterclockwise, nothing happened until i unscrewed it about 40 turns then the idle would finally lower. I lowered the idle to 1200 because i couldnt really get the idle any lower and didnt know how many times i could turn it.
I then turned the mixture screws out 3 turns expecting to see the rpm's increase from looking at other posts on here but turning the mixture screws out(from lightly seated) seemed to do nothing. I kept it on 3 turns out and ran the bike for about 15 minutes. i decided to keep the idle at about 1400. I didnt actually drive the bike because there is still so much snow up here. i only had it in neutral on the center stand but it seems pretty responsive to throttle changes. When everything was stock, i remember that sometimes it used to stay at around 2200 rpms occasionally and i would have to blip the thottle to get it back to 1300. After the rejet, it goes right back down to 1500 and doesn't hang so I am pretty happy with that. But anyway, after putting my bike back into my cellar, i checked the spark plugs and they were pretty damn black(ill attach a picture) I was wondering if this means that my jets are too big or something. I was also wondering if it was normal that it took a lot of turns to lower my idle.

im not sure if this affects my spark plugs but the fuel that is running in my bike is about 6 months old
He he ... you using horse piss to make Horse power ... new gas - old gas starts to go in a matter of weeks. Modern gas is terrible.
OK you have 142.5 with Lunch box and pipe ? the right jet is 147.5 mains. You sure you reading it right ? 142 could look like 147.
So you're rich in that plug, rich as stink. But you may be rich @ idle, and lean over 1/2 throttle.
Cool.
Buddha.
Thanks for the reply. I'll get new gas in it, change the plugs and actually drive it. Then I'll check again. So you think I should have a 147.5 in? I ordered a those jets so yeh I have a 142.5 main. I figured that would be a good starting point
