Title: GRRRRRRR......Stripped the oil filter cap :x
Post by: CasiUSA on January 30, 2004, 08:04:45 PM
I stripped the top right nut on the oil cap. I think there's something On Pablo's page about this. Just wanted to share my frustration.

I came close to doing the same on my last oil change. The o-ring came loose and got pinched. It kept leaking but I could tell I was close to snapping it. So I  backed off to check the o-ring.I had completly ruined the new o-ring and had to use the old one.
Title: NUTS
Post by: Shadowhawk on January 30, 2004, 10:50:08 PM
I managed to strip one of the upper nuts on the filter cover when I did the first oil change on my gs450, but thankfully I stripped the nut and not the stud.  The nuts on the 450 and the 500 are metric 6X1 and dirt cheap to buy.  I bought a standart nut, it doesn;t look as pretty, but I really don't care, it keeps the oil in the engine.  I did some thinking, and in my opinion, if I did strip a stud, I would take all three out, put in helicoil inserts, and use allen bolts.  I just hope I never come to that.  One leak down, now I need to fix the leak at the shiftrod.

Good Luck

Shadowhawk,

If you haven't already located the source of the "shift rod leak", you might be interested in reading the old Fluid Leak thread.

Thanks, that could be the problem, I'll look into it next weekend.
