Title: Fork seals - Seal Mate
Post by: max9505672 on April 05, 2014, 02:14:24 PM
Hi,

Anyone has ever used this product on his GS500 : http://sealmate.net/seal_mate_instructions.html

I've tried it today on my 2 fork seals, but I still have a little bit of oil coming out of the forks. How long (or how many forks pumping) could it take for the seals to seat back on place and seal properly ?

I can't see this product being a fix-all... in other words if you've used it and tried to reseat the seal many times, chances are the fork seal may just be bad.

What age/year is your GS?

Change the upper bushings and insure the washers are under the fork seals when you put them in.
Worn bushings and they will leak forever.

The Seal Mate works only if crap under the seal is the reason it's leaking. If the seal is just worn out, or the bushings are worn, or the fork tubes are pitted then it won't help.

To whom it may concern -

I decided to bite on the SM to deal with a leaky fork. I removed the dust cap, inserted the tool as far as I could (which wasn't as much as shown in the video), moved it around the leg, wiped, pumped and...voila: no more seeping fork juice.

So, it worked for me.
And I wouldn't recommend buying it.

(what?!?!!?)

For what it is (thin plastic, not even as thick as a hard plastic report cover), it's only worth the cost if you get 5 for the $5 plus shipping it takes to get one. After seeming to successfully dig out whatever had gotten under my seal, the tool bent and became useless. You are better of just making your own.

I am happy it worked, though.
