Title: Ahh man. Bad day
Post by: pomme123 on April 07, 2014, 01:53:32 AM
I was going round a corner (slowly might I say) this morning and my back wheel slid out and swung around. Dumped the bike and did a little damage. Got some replacement parts ordered today and found out the dealer I ordered them off has charged me $90 for a $55 part so I've also been ripped off. Gah. Oh well. Photos of damage are below. Not much but enough to be frustrating. Gee not good it bucked you off bro! .. But glad YOU are ok, and lucky such minor damage to bike!! ... Hope your repairs happen speedily! ... But there are some bikes out there riding around with more bits missing!!  :icon_rolleyes: ...

I guess some owners don't care as much eh?! Pity....  :nono: ..

Hang on to that stallion!! .. It now has experience in its upbringing!  ;)

Haha. Yeah. Well to be honest once the parts come she'll look good as new. Bar the exhaust of which I can't justify to the partner to upgrade. Haha. One day.

Exhaust tip. 90mm waste water plastic pipe, slit up one side, will slip neatly up along and cover the exhaust. You can do a bit of a "bayonet fitting" type cutting to cope with the point where the exhaust mounts to the pillion footrest hanger. The plastic pipe can be painted black with the product you use for wood stoves. The pipe has no problems handling the exhaust heat. And for a couple of dollars you'll have a fix that hides all the dents and scratches and actually looks pretty good.

That's not damage. I think they come form the factory with that.
Cool.

Ahh that makes me feel better Buddha. Haha. As for the pipes. Eventually I'll change over to a delvik exhaust or something like that. Once I've saved enough to appease the missus

If I may ask- what happened exactly in the turn? Did you squeeze the front brake mid turn or what?

i should've been more specific, the ground was wet from rain the night before, my friend (the one in the ridiculously tight red pants in the first pic) was riding his Honda XR250 right behind me, he slid out and went airborne, i saw him flying in my side mirrors and swund my head around to see if he was ok, i think i tapped the rear brake causing a loss of traction!

1. Muffler: R&G Muffler guards (get one for each end) can hide much of that. All my bikes have them even before any falls.
2. Bar ends: R&G sells replacement plastic ends
3. Peg mount bracket: Every once in a while I throw some to recycling because they keep accumulating from parts buys and I have a box of them. Need one?
4. Adjustable brake lever: Motion Pro for about $25

Man if you would've told me about the peg mount brackets. Haha. I have one coming in for $90 inc shipping so that shouldn't take too long. I'm going to invest in the muffler guards and going to get some replacement plastic for my bar end. Thanks for the information addy

Another option for the muffler: Get a stainless steel flue pipe offcut from a woodstove suppler, cut it lengthwise twice (with an angle grinder) to match the circumference of the old one, and shape it around the bracket. Flue pipe usually 100mm diameter, but you can roll it around (say) 75mm poly pipe to get the right diameter to slip it over the old one. Polishes up nicely.
Yup, it's a bit of work, but if you have more time than money...
