Title: Chain/sprocket
Post by: Jimbob on April 11, 2014, 06:21:22 AM
What do you think about these options for chain and sprocket. First is a set. 2nd is buy each individually.

One member on this board seems to own a Volar and has made statements about it that others might construe as positive, though said member has apparently never made any bindingly positive comments about said Volar chain. That said chain appears to be acceptably serviceable in said member's use has no bearing on any perceivable opinion of said member about said chain.

Others....well, a few aren't fans.

adidasguy seems to be the only fan of Volar around here.

It is the internet and people always read in to things and take things out of context.

In a thread by someone proclaiming they were junk, I reported that I have one on a bike and it is fine.

There you have it.

Will this chain fit the GS? Does it have the right number of links etc?

No, it shouldn't. You need a 520 chain, not a 525. And you want 110 links, this one has 120, which could be okay if it was a 520 chain and you didn't mind removing 10 links somehow.

Correct on that.  520 is required for the size.

If you get a 120 link chain and have a chain tool, it can remove the extra links using the chain breaker part of the kit.
520 - 110 should be easy to find.

Ok so this should be the right one?

Are these also the right sprockets?

So the sprockets above are the right ones for a GS500 2004?

Yes, those will work.  Bear in mind that 15 teeth on the front is -1 from stock.

My local bike shop want $160 for chain $40 for front sprocket and $60 for rear sprocket that's AU$ so I thought I must be able to get it cheaper. I found these can you tell me which is right I can't see the difference.
Also are they good quality?

I've had a look at a few websites and on quite a few they have the same box I just don't wan to buy a cheap knock off.

got mine from amazon. you could always go to a bike dealer if your concerned about authenticity of a part. i got my sun something sprocket and jt reat sprocket everything looks good same with the chain. only thing i was worried about was buying the wrong chain since it was kind of expensive. havent had time to put them on yet. going on vacation on sunday and still have more fiberglass work to do. good luck!
