Hello guys, is my first post here, and I have one problem with my gs500 (first bike for me).
I had the problem with high rmp even if the throtle was off, like the other guy who posted here his problem.
The left spark plug was black, the other one was brown, so I went with the bike to service.
Now the guy from there told me my carbs are in bad condition, something bend inside and shaZam! , I still have some missfire on the exhaust , like before, but I tink the high rpms are solve, I just think , is raining here and cold, so I can't get it to a ride test.
I'm asking now, can I put carbs from a 95-97-98 gs500 to my gs500 2000 ? my gs is gm51A , and the others are gm51b .
Need some help please.
and also wich is the RES and wich is the On from the tank , the longest one is Res and the short is ON ?
Left is longest , and right is shortest , if you look the bike with the tank on from the left side(side with the gear lever).

Carbs for 89-2000 are all the same.
You can put on 2001-2002 carbs, too. They are newer 3 jet carbs without all the emissions stuff on the 2004+ carbs.
2004+ can go on but you have to ignore the extra crap on them as there is no place to connect that stuff.
Your diagram shows the tank petcock on backwards. The slot to turn it off should point to the right.
Given that, the fuel lines do not cross. The longer one is the reserve and should be in front. It connects to the back nipple on the frame petcock.
The shorter nipple on the tank is the ON and connects to the forward nipple on the frame petcock.
can someone upload any image with the fitting of new carbs on old bike ? I found from an 2006 gs500 , wanna fit it to mine.
Can show me how I need to connect all stuff and what I have to left in "blank" ?
89-00 is easier to fit the carbs.
Forget all the crap on the 06 one. There is a routing diagram somewhere ... google it.
Cool.

That fitting on top if its broken, you can replace that top cap.
In fact if its broken, you could just put a solid rubber bit 0 like a small piece of inner tube under it and just use it broken.
Put a pic up. Its probably easy to save.
