Sorry this is my first post (here's my meet and greet: Hello everyone! ;) ),
but this is an issue I wish to have resolved ASAP!
Recently, I bought a 2006 GS500F from someone off craigslist for $2200.:technical:
The bike had trouble starting when I bought it, but I was told it just sat for a while (and I did buy it in January so it was possible it sat over the winter), had bad gas in the tank and that it just needed a tune up. When I went to buy the bike, the guy had the bike running with the choke on and took it for a quick drive up and down the parking lot. The bike seemed to run fine, of course I didn't buy a motorcycle without seeing it start or drive (duh).
After buying the bike, I did all of the maintenance on it. I drained the bad gas from the tank, cleaned the carbs out, put some new gas in the tank, changed the battery, changed the oil/filter, the air filter and the spark plugs! The bike has been running well for the past week (kind of).
THE 'KIND OF':
After doing all of the maintenance on the bike, I took it for a 45 minute test drive and it worked perfectly. After the test drive, I decided to take the bike out an hour later and 10 minutes into the drive, the bike stalls on me at a red light. The bike won't start back up, so I turned it to Prime for a few seconds and it started right back up. This happened to me 3 times as I tried to drive the bike back home. The bike stalled like it was fuel starved, engine just cut off, sometimes while in the middle of riding.
So for the past week, I have been riding with the bike in Prime and turning the petcock back to ON when not riding. The bike has been riding perfectly fine while it was in Prime. I've taken the bike out for hour long drives this week with no problem. The only problem I've has was starting the bike, which I would have to put the choke on briefly to get the bike to start, then put the petcock to Prime, and turn the choke off after a few minutes. It was a little bit of a pain in the ass to start the bike, but once it was started, it ran fine.
I looked it up and read it's either my vacuum hose or my petcock, checked the
ISSUE OF THE DAY:
As of today, Saturday, the nicest day of the year, with nothing to do, the bike will not start.>:(
I took the bike out the garage, put the choke on, hit the start button, it would turn a little and then nothing.
After a few times of trying, it starts with the choke on, rpms running high. After about 30 seconds, the rpms start to drop and the bike stalls. The bike won't start back up if I try again, but if I continue to try, it will eventually start again, although the same thing happens. If I take the choke off, the bike stalls almost immediately. I've taken the tank off to 'look under the hood' and everything looks intact. All the hoses are connected, there's fuel in the lines, fuel in the float bowls, the air filter is completely clean and dry, etc. At this point, after multiple attempts, the bike will turn and give a little sputter but won't start at all, even with the choke on.:dunno_white:
Please someone give me some advice or insight in what is going on with this bike. I'm supposed to go riding with a few buddies tomorrow, and it's killing me being inside on this beautiful day. I've also spent to much money and put to much time and hard work into this thing for it to sit in the garage. I really hope it's an easy fix, cause this things starting to give me a headache. I just wanna ride problem free already.
Does it stay running when in prime? How about reserve? How is the fuel level in the bowls?

Sorry for the HUGE book I wrote but I feel the more information the better with these things.
The bike would run fine in Prime after I got it started, but as of today it's not running at all.
It will start with the choke on after multiple tries to start it, but then stalls out, it doesn't stay running.
And the other two questions?
Another question: How much gas have you put in the tank, and how many miles have you ridden?

CLASSIC out of gas symptoms.
Wait for it?! ..."but I can see gas in the tank?" ;)
I put 3 gallons of gas in the tank. I had to drive with the bike in Prime cause it would stall if the fuel valve was ON.
The bike was working perfectly fine last night, and won't run today.
Same with reserve, bike stalls until running in Prime.
I unscrewed the screw to one of the float bowls and some gas dripped out so I assume
they are full. I'm not really sure how to check how much gas is in the float bowls.
