Title: recovering the seat
Post by: kensully on April 25, 2014, 08:40:20 AM
hey guys still don't know how to get pics up  :technical: but here are some links.
here are the first two steps that I did on my seat project, first time doing this

Now I consider myself a good do it yourselfer guy and I jus wanted a few ideas as to stretching the material.
I got some marine vinyl and spray adhesive, a staple gun and 3/8 staples. anything else I should need?
and since it is raining and I cant sun bake the material would using a heat gun suffice for the molding of the material?
if this seat comes out good I'm going to practice on another and do some custom cushioning.

Anything else you need?... Well... Patience!  Taking your time and stretching the vinyl really well is the best advice I have for it.  Stretching the vinyl is probably the most time consuming part, and it will make a big difference in how it looks when you finish, and how it will look over time.

Dont use a heat buy, use a hair dryer. Heat gun is too much heat.
Cool.

This is privy to my interests! I was going to go with the allsport vinyl though.

I was told that the all sport vinyl wont hold up as good as the marine but I'm new to this myself so later in my escapades I will try other materials.
If I get this done with minor hiccups my next project will be to modify the foam aswell and maybe use a alligator imprinted vinyl, we will see how this goes ( may be the start of a business ;) lol  O0 ) only time will tell

(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3OuFM95ZA94/U1wX7YZ7EFI/AAAAAAAAAuw/20-kgQZSFjY/w904-h678-no/CAM00236.jpg) after this pic I got an idea  :icon_idea:

decided to add my personal touch by adding a extra overlap on the front of the seat and a strap on the rear, reinforced with mule tape (1500lbs tensile strength) used for pulling innerduct through underground piping  :D

this one was a little more tricky cause of the contouring of the seat but still for my first day attempt not to shaby I think

You did a good job, but still something bothers me about it. there's got to be a way to get the looseness out.

there is, instead of going front to back or back to front on this seat, after my first attempt at it watched a video, you start in the middle going to the front but at that time I already creased it in the spots where its seen. I'm sure I could stretch it more but I'm content atm.
going to try another material soon an see if I can get it set right this time.

at the convienent price of 12.99plus shipping and handling and material and hourly compensation it could be yours  :thumb:
