So, i installed a pingel petcock, and all seemed well for a while. However, lately while i am riding, after about 30 minutes, fuel will start to drip from the lunchbox filter, as if the floats were sticking open. If i shut the fuel off and run it for about 30 seconds, then open the petcock again, the problem goes away. I don't have a fuel filter, but if it were debris, wouldn't it be less predictable? Is it possible that the fuel flow is so unrestricted that the head pressure from the tank is enough to force the needles off their seats?
No, you can't have too big of a valve. I would guess your needles are worn or sticking or dirty.

I hope they're not worn, they've got less than 1000 miles on them!
I suppose the only way to know, is to pull the bowls off and look.
Your float heights may be a little high... I'd check those before opening anything up. Clear U-tube method is simple and effective at determining fueling issues at the carbs.

if they do turn out to be too high, what is a good increment to adjust them down? 1mm at a time?
Yeah, that'd be a good amount if your are able to measure and adjust that accurately. Depending on year of bike (2 or 3 circuit carb), stock float height is 14mm +/-1mm.

its a 2 circuit, and its jetted for a lunchbox and a full yoshi exhaust. Float height would be raised to accomodate the jetting would it not?
Float height should be same no matter the jetting; however, Buddha has mentioned that the 2-circuit carbs seem to need float height adjustment as they tend to fluctuate over time, whereas in the 3-circuit carbs this fluctuation doesn't seem to be as prevalent.

Awesome info, thanks!
right float height was set to about 6mm, i think its safe to say that was my problem. Thanks for all the help!
so, about 50 miles later, the same exact problem has come back. Why is this float drifting so quickly?
replaced the float in the right carb with a brand new OEM part, along with a new needle. Not even 100 miles later, the same thing happens.
This tells me that fuel is entering the bowl through an unmetered port. My first guess is the o- ring around the seat. Ive ordered all the o-rings in the carb. Hopefully this will fix the issue.
Does anybody have any other ideas that I can check?
bump?
