Well its that time, the PO didn't really do a good job of cleaning or oiling the chain. So its time for a new one, any one ever use a Z-ring chain, I don't ride in the dessert but i figured this one might hold up a little better than the rest? What brands dose every one like ?

DID/RK O-ring is all you need. Z-ring chains of the same quality are more expensive and won't offer much for our 40 RWHP. The O-ring one is rated up to 75HP, that's well enough, spend the rest on fuel or chicks :thumb:
My experience has been that exotic seals don't make a significant difference in chain life or power loss. Buy a reasonable quality o-ring chain and be done with it. I've had good luck with SunStar; it's not exotic, but it's OEM for a lot of bikes. A good quality chain for a good price.
Small displacement race bikes will sometimes use non-o-ring chains; they are lower friction, which saves a couple of HP. A couple of HP is huge on a small displacement bike like the GS. The downside is that you have to lube them every 20 miles or so, and replace them a few times a year. It's a big enough hassle that I wouldn't recommend it unless you're racing competitively. Even on the track there's something to be said for a bike that just works.
Yeah I wasn't looking for any performance gains, just better life. It's one I those things that you only replace every other year or so, I don't mind spending extra money now. I'll look into some I-ring chains

If your simply looking for longevity consider a Scottoiler.I put one on from new & only top-up the oil every few months.Your supposed to get 5X the normal chain life but if i get 2X i'll be happy.

I have a Q ring DID. I think it may be the best I have ever run on the GS.

I know, right?! I hadn't heard of them till that post lol. But sounds like a neat idea, and it seems they are pretty effective by the reviews. Wasn't sure how it would look, but that's a pretty incognito place to mount reservoir.
Is it hard to fill up being located there?

It's extremely easy to fill.Remove the black rubber top & there is a filler hole underneath.Filler bottle has a flexible plastic tube that simply inserts.I'v heard of ppl using ATF fluid or plain oil as a lubricant to save money,but since the original is relatively cheap & lasts for ages(and is water soluable) i'v stuck with that.
Guaranteed,once u have one installed u won't go back...it's a nice feeling checking your chain & seeing a shiny/thin coating of libricant ALL the time.
