After riding for about 30 minutes the RPM would increase at stop lights and stop signs to above an idle.
While holding the brake, I somewhat release the clutch to get the RPM down a little.
It rises to about 4-6k
Any ideas of what I could play with to get rid of this issue?
Did you turn off your choke when this happens
I used to have this problem. If I'm not mistaken, it has to do with a lean idle. An easy fix that may work is to unscrew the idle adjust knob a little and see if it goes away. I don't have that problem anymore because I did a rejet. I am now running 20/65/142.5 jets. The stock jets are 17.5/60/130. Adjusting the fuel/air screws could also help but if u have never adjusted them before then u will have to remove the brass caps over them.
If idle was set with a cold engine (eg. not riding 30 minutes before doing so), that's your problem right there, the high idle is the actual setting. Just turn the adjusting knob until it's somewhere between 1200-1500 RPM.
If not, and it's a new problem, I'm thinking intake leak. Spray some WD-40 around the intake boots with the bike running, if RPM changes, that's the culprit.
