Title: Brake light wiring and flashing module question
Post by: Coseverde on May 11, 2014, 07:23:36 PM
I have a 2005 model, and am trying to understand how my brake light is wired.  I believe that...

Brown wire is for tail / parking light (always on in ON or PARK key position)
White wire with black stripe is for when brake is applied
Black wire with white stripe is for ground.

Correct?

Reason why I'm asking is that I purchased a module that should cause my brake light to flash initially before remaining on.  I've wired the +ive wire from the module along the white wire with black stripe.  The -ive wire from the module along the black wire with white stripe.  Everything worked properly beforehand.  Once wired up, no brake light, solid or flashing.  Reversing the white and brown wires and I get no parking light, but brake light works.  This suggests to me that the module is defective.  Thoughts anyone?

Okay, I took a closer look and it turns out that there is an IN and an OUT side to the module.  I wired it backwards.  Of course, now the thing has melted and is totally fubared.  The irony is that I managed to mistakely order two when I placed my order and had to go to the trouble of cancelling one of the orders.  I guess I should have bought the second one after all...!

You fried the actually back off light or did you just melt the wires a little? Either way thats unfortunate. I am sorry man.

No, I fried the flasher module.  Everything else appears fine.  Pulled the module out and wired everything back as before and it all works.  I'd post a pic if I knew how.

Sign up for a photobucket account, it's free. Then you just upload you pictures onto the photobucket site straight from your computer, then copy the direct links and paste the link into the img code box (click on the picture of Mona Lisa). Let me know if that helped lol
