Title: led turn signals. wired diodes and new flasher.
Post by: rexpepper651 on May 12, 2014, 06:51:22 PM
i wired up my new led turn signals all four of them. they are 15 led signals. i wired up the new flasher (pictured below) along with the diodes. what i get is right side blinks normal i think and the dash indicator bulb doesnt flash at all. when i go to use the left side. everything flashes along with the dash indicator bulb. i wired everything up the way it was suppose to be in the diagram so im unsure what is going on. is it the flasher relay thats causing the problem?

Am I missing the diagram you're referencing?

The only diode for turn signals I'm aware of is one that needs to be wired in at the turn signal indicator when replacing the indicator bulb with an LED. I'm not aware of any other reason to wire in multiple diodes.

Maybe someone else will chime in with the details I'm missing. :dunno_black:

I just did my katana and there was only the one that came in the kit. It may make your blinker faster but DO NOT wire without the diode, it'll pop the led. Found out the hard way

There is no excuse for what I'm about to do

yes. ive used the diode wiring diagram provided by Adidasguy, im many many led turn signal threads ive searched. here is a link http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=60035.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=60035.0). you can see that my wiring is the same. green has diode before the light and black has diode then connecting it to the green. then black is grounded out on the black white for the high beam bulb. im nots just understanding why it isnt working.

Best thing i could say is check to see if 1 thread of wire is making contact were it shouldn't, had that issue on a car stereo once, just one little thread on a 18g wire i didn't see, took a week.

There is no excuse for what I'm about to do

are diodes directional?

Yes. Pay attention to the silver stripe on the end.

pictures aren't very clear, but it almost looks like the diode from the green wire is backwards.

dang i didnt know that. the silver band is suppose to be on the bulb end of the wiring right? if so that one on the green side is indeed backwards. ill pop an new one in its spot an let ya know how it went

For switching diodes, current flows towards the end with the silver band; so the banded end goes to the bulb socket.

That will give you exactly the symptom you have, I'm confident turning the diode around will fix your problem.

awesome guys it works! got some new diodes installed em now they flash! that flasher unit does not work tho. i used the stock one and it works well! very happy i did this thank you for the help!
