Title: ethanol free gas?
Post by: Nocluejoe on May 18, 2014, 02:52:09 PM
A few gas stations sell ethanol gas recommened for boats, is there any benefit to using this gas for our gs500? Its 10cents more but from what I understand less ethanol is better for the carbs

Ethanol is false economy....it's not as efficient as non ethanol fuel so u need more by volume to travel the same distance.Rubber/plastic components that were designed to work with non ethanol fuel are also an unknown quantity.
I purposely avoid ethanol.

When I run non-ethanol gas there's much less warm up time needed and my GS does run better. Ethanol was developed to end the use of carborators. Governement trying to control what we choose to ride and work on. Computers can be limited, carborated vehicles are truly free.

I thought it was a failed attempt to go green while pleasing the corn industry?

In Australia we always have a choice. There 91E10 which is your ethanol. 95 or 98. I always use 95 and occasionally use 98 to run some nice fuel through. Though I've been told 98 can be too thick.
I usually get around 200kms/10litres.

Avgas is full of lead............not good for suzuki.........no alcohol though.....

You can go to any airport and buy if you want....also 2x to 3x the $$$ of car gas

No, it destroys carbs, makes plastic and rubber parts brittle

AvGas long ago was loaded with lead, its now refined and refered to a low lead.  it wont hurt the suzuki unless you have Cat converters on your exhaust

Ethanol/Alcohol does not burn as well as unleaded or even LowLead .  but it does burn cooler .  To get the most bang for the buck using it, you need high compression Ratio and about 20-30% more in volume then petrol fuels.

Yes its useable, yes its cleaner, and yes its renewable.. but 20 miles to gal of petrol will only get you about 7 miles in ethanol and it destroys fuel systems that use plastic, vinyl, or rubber.  it plain sucks unless you have a farm with the equipment to make/Refine it in mass quantities for use in your Equipment. as far as that goes BioDiesel is far more Efficiant then so called BIOhol
