Title: From one GS to another!
Post by: pomme123 on May 27, 2014, 10:45:00 AM
Hey guys. I'm thinking about upgrading my bike from my current beauty (09 GS500) to a GSX-R 750 and was wondering about your opinion. I've been riding now for 4 years and can say I only have experience on this bike though I have one off ridden a couple of others. Never gone above a 500 though. Can you guys help me with my decision and give me some reasonable pros and cons to win the possible argument with my girlfriend!

The pros
It's an amazing bike.
It's a fast bike, tons of power
Brakes are a million times better
Suspension is way better

The cons
More expensive upkeep
Feels heavy though the corners
The front wheel has a hard time staying on the ground =)

I love the gsxr 750 it's an amazing bike , I'd love to own one but right now I can't afford it so it won't happen for a while. If you can do it!

I will have to finance it but I still live at home with the parents and the Aussie Suzuki dealers have a $1000 cash back program on at the moment. How much do you think I could sell a 09 gs500 with 40k on the clock and a scratched exhaust for.

Oh and can't use the fast bit as an argument point as I've had 3 speeding offences already ;P

Ouch, yeah they aren't any fun. Your really not going be able to win a fight with your woman why you need a gsxr. I love them but a gs is more bike than most people need

Fun bike to ride, jus don't get complacent on it. Me I like 600cc jus seems to be a funner ride. Can you keep the gs and get the gsxr?
May regret selling it

There is no excuse for what I'm about to do

I've gone and done it. I'm now the proud owner of a 2013 gixxer 750 (brand new). I'm gonna stay on this forum though. Keep on posting. There are to many good people here.

I've already done a tail tidy  that rear fender was ugly. Haha. I don't think I'm going to do much straight off. Down the track I may change the exhaust and pop a HID in! Maybe some LEDs for under the fender. Might look cool!!

I have a gsxr600 & gs500.

I enjoy riding the GS 9 times out of 10. There's something to be said about being care free from cops, parking, etc. All I do on the GSXR is try to go slow.

I went the same route, GS500 to gixxer 750. Fun as hell to go fast, blew the GS's handling out of the water, and basically performed better in every possible way.

But it was expensive to maintain, hard to work on, (this was just mine) only ran half the time, and it sucked in town. I sold it for an SV650 since I wasn't enjoying riding it anywhere under 60mph.

I'll buy another for sure though, just not as a daily ride!

As they say: 'it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow'. Stay away from  :police: :police: :police: !!!

I am thinking about getting a bigger bike down the road, but only for riding it on track. GS gives you just enough power to cut through the traffic like a knife through butter, but won't get you in too much trouble.

Just today - I went for a ride and at a red light a guy on a CBR 900RR caught up with me. When the light turned green I let him go first, he pulled out a wheele and was gone for a while. Not too much later I caught up with him and left him in the dust because he just didn't have the skill (or balls) to cut through the traffic.

So I get all the fun I could wish for, cheap maintenance and good mileage. And if I crash - it will hurt and cost less. I will only consider an upgrade if I start racing on track and will feel that I'm limited by the bike, more than my own skills.

Sweet bike. Suzuki has similar incentives in the US right now. They're offering $1000 customer cash on 2013 models with 0% financing. Comes out to around $175/mo payment for 60 months. 2014 models get $500 customer cash and 0% financing.

Congrats on the new bike! Always loved the 750 size. However this is one thing wrong with this thread, you only posted one picture of the new bike! More please  :D

Now thats better! Black is the fastest color too  ;)  (coming from a guy with a red bike)

If I ever got a full on super sport it would have been a GSXR. I went the naked route and got a Triumph.

Be easy with your right hand! Especially the lever, those Brembo monoblocks will stop you on a dime!!!
