From my experience, an original NEW Suzuki Front rotor thickness seems to fall between 4.6mm / 4.7mm from what I can remember. (I also have an OEM rotor here where I checked the area toward the center of the rotor - (where the brake pads do not make any contact) - and I'm seeing 4.6mm on both of them. (It's showing appx 4.1mm where the pad makes contact - legal for inspection but it was removed when I did the brakes last just to play it safe).
I usually keep them around to calibrate my caliper or for a spare if needed.
I'm just wondering if others agree with that number for a new OEM rotor?
The reason I ask is: My current rotor on the bike is showing about 4.3mm / 4.4mm so I'm good for inspection. I recently saw that Pinwall cycle had one advertized @ 4.6mm so I thought I'd pick it up for a spare.
Turns out, it's reading (at least on my caliper) 3.8mm / "maybe 4.0mm max). 4.1mm to be "generous".
It's inner diameter where the brakes do not contact is reading 4.5mm / 4.6mm so I'm thinking my caliper is fine and they're just trying to pass this thing off on someone. It certainly won't pass inspection @ 3.8mm on average.
I certainly understand that an "advertised 4.6mm" may be a bit off, but I was expecting at least a 4.3mm based on a 4.6mm advertised reading.
Just trying to get a few opinions before I contact them (while I'm measuring other items around the garage). I think I'll run it over to the place that inspects my bike and have them check it with the same tool they would use to inspect my bike next month.
Any input would be great.
My bike has 5k Km on it & with digital micrometer measures a consistant 4.4mm....that Pinwall cycles rotor seems a tad skinny.
Contact Pinwall Cycles and tell then what you are reading on your end. It could just be a mistake when they pulled the rotor off.

I have had many dealings with Pinwall and have found them to be a pretty honest company. I would let them know and get a replacement. :dunno_black:
I agree. I emailed them late last night. No response yet.
Measuring the rotor in about 15 different spots, I'm getting 3.8mm/4.0mm. They advertised it as 4.5mm. Not even close. >:( This thing is essentially a paperweight. It's not hard to measure a rotor so I'm hoping it's an honest mistake as opposed to them trying to just pass off something to someone that they thought wouldn't check it out.
I've heard some bad stories about Pinwall over the last few years. Their ebay feedback is racking up quite a bit of negatives lately (and quite a bit of it is about selling "junk") but that's to be expected to some extent when you do that many sales so I don't really hold that against them (too much).
To be honest, I was a little hesitant but they've always have a real good reputation so I "went with that". I'll see what their response is and post back.
Clymer manual says 4.3-4.7 mm thick when new, 4.0 mm service limit, and 0.3 mm runout. Isn't min thickness marked on the rotor? Most are now.

Correct, Minimum thickness is listed on rotor - 4mm minimum on front. (5.5mm minimum on rear I believe) and in Clymer manual as you mention. I wasn't sure of thickness when new but from what I remember is was appx 4.5mm or so on an OEM Suzuki rotor. Just wanted to verify that. Thanks for the confirmation
This thing they sent is 3.8mm-4.0mm max and that's not even suitable for the road. They advertised it as 4.5mm/4.6mm so based on those readings, I was guessing it was "fairly low mileage".
They either didn't even check it, misread it - or sold it without checking it and made up that reading.
Either way, it can't be used. No word from them at all to multiple emails. Calling them next.
I put a like new rotor on my 02 in 2012 bought from motorcyclesalvation and it looked like brand new and it measured .176" (4.47mm) on outer edge and .173" (4.39mm) on the worn area today 6600 miles later. The old original rotor it replaced was down to .124" (3.15mm) in the most worn area, fortunately we don't have inspections. :icon_lol:
Got new front and rear calipers from Pinwall last July from a bike they said had 2600 miles on it and they really were like new. I've thought highly of them since, Adidasguy used to order from them across the country and they are here in Ohio near me.
I was measuring today with a Starrett 1" micrometer, never really liked calipers for that purpose but never really had a good calipers I guess.
Sadly, (At least for me), their recent, growing ebay negative feedback is accurate. No response at all from them and what they sent me was "junk" as some others have stated. My last time ordering from them.
Can't you make a claim through eBay? It states that you don't pay if you receive an item and it's not "as described" or something along those lines. If Pinwall said it was 4.6mm thick and it is considerably less, I'd say that isn't as described......

If u bought it from ebay go to the Resolution Center and open a case.Sorry,but personally i think u won't get very far cos Pinwall seems like a valued seller,but this would be a good test for ebay.
At the very least if unsuccessful leave negative feedback & say why......negative feedback affects sales.

Oh Yeah.. Definitely - Filing a claim is exactly what I'm going to do. (Cost to ship back may be a little bit of a factor - but I don't think I'll have an issue at all with a refund). You have to contact ebay / file a claim, wait for them to contact you back / send their side of the story to ebay ....;.blah blah, blah... and then wait for a certain amount of time for a decision and then you can request a refund. A bit of a hassle but what can you do....
I honestly think they figure @ $40, someone won't send it back and just take a loss. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see it listed again.
