Title: CA - timing advance ?
Post by: JohNLA on February 02, 2004, 11:11:52 AM
Now that my GS is running good. I am considering the do it yourself timing mod. I have an 02 with CA timing and emmisions junk. Is there anything extra I need to worry about or do differently from the How-to in the Mods section ?

i don't think there's any incompatibilities...i got in on the bob broussard mail-order program a while back and he said that his template works for all years, all models.  i put his advancer on my california model '01 and it's fine.  i even took the charcoal canister off after installing his advancer and it's still fine.  (i did overtighten the bolt that holds the ignition plate on...but once i got a new bolt, it was perfect.)

Does anyone know the difference between mine and a non CA ? I am thinking I will need to rotate more than 5 degrees.

See Bob Broussard's posts in the thread [ignition advancer mod], especially his 3rd post.

Yes, that is what I needed to know :thumb:
Kerry, are you real good with the search or do you actually remember all those threads ? Either way, thanks.

A little of both, I guess.

Let's just say that I remember enough about certain kinds of threads to know what to search for!

Just send me your rotor and you'll get the full 17 degrees of advance.
You can't rotate the timing plate enough to get that much timing advance.
If the bike has a rotor with 12-28 stamped on it, the do it yourself mod works great. The CA rotor has 5-35 on it and will need to be modified in a couple spots to give the full advancer improvement. :thumb:
