Title: Weird Gas Tank Vent Problem
Post by: twistit on June 20, 2014, 02:49:08 PM
If I run my 94 GS over 70-75mph for a couple of miles, it starts running lean, then sluggish then starts to cut out.  I open the gas tank fill cap, equalize the pressure and off we go.  If I keep it under 60 it will run all day.  Can the tank vent hole in the cap be clogged?  If so, how is that cleaned up?

Many thanks, I'll jump right on it.   I don't know what else could be causing this.  It's a fuel starvation problem for sure.  Putting the gas tap on Reserve or Prime does not fix the problem while under way.  There is good fuel flow to the carbs.  Opening the filler cap fixes the problem.

I can vouch for this.  I did this and it smoothed things out for me.

I suggest taking the cap apart in a plastic bag, so you dont lose the ball bearing.....they go flying....Just one more thing added to my garage floor never to be found again.

Until 4 years later when you are working on a car / truck /weed eater etc.  You'll look down and ..... right in the middle of the floor you'll see the ball bearing and say.......  "are you kidding me"!   :embarassed:
