Title: Suggestions for replacing stock 06 gs500 mirrors
Post by: Speedfreak14 on June 24, 2014, 04:49:50 PM
Hello i have an 06 gs500f and was wanting to replace the mirrors for shorter ones. The stock ones stick out WAY to much and vibrate terribly at somewhat higher speeds. Hearing alot if different things. Suggestions anyone? I would rather have a direct bolt on replacement. Small modding is ok as well. And i dont need the integrated turn signals but if there are some that will bolt on and look good im down with that.    And i dont really like bar end ones. Any suggestions or help much appreciated!!! Thanks guys!

Yea i have read that link. I wanted somethin that would go into place of where the old ones went. I have seen alot of mirrors for gsxrs and katanas both aftermarket and stock but i dont know if they will fit right in the stock holes of the gs500f. Thats kinda what i wanna know. If anyone has used any of those and it worked.

After a slow speed tip over, my girlfriend replaced hers with mirrors from an SV650. Theyre exactly the same but the stem was ~1" shorter.

I used these mirrors I found on eBay. They were pretty easy to install, maybe give them a try.

I used these mirrors I found on eBay. They were pretty easy to install, maybe give them a try.

I've also have these LED Turn Signal Mirrors. My personal experience with them hasn't been that great and would not recommend them.

1. On HWY speeds the mirrors will produce a lot of vibrations. Everything is blurred out for me.
Just this morning my second set of these... The right mirror randomly snapped off going at HWY speed (120-140 km/h).

2. I tried two different set of these mirrors (a) clear LED frame and (b) smoke LED frame. The smoke LED frame was significantly brighter in the daytime and night time. The clear LED frame is barely visible for oncoming vehicles to be aware of.

3. These mirrors are a bout 1/2 inch shorter than stock mirrors. For me that is a huge issue because I see more of my elbow now, and adjustment of the viewing angle is very limited.
The first set of these mirrors for me broke within 2 minutes after installation. I was adjusting the right mirror viewing angle, and it just snapped right off.

4. Installation was a breeze if you use: (a) http://www.posi-lock.com/posilock.html -  (b) You can also use Bullet Snap Connectors or solder them together and protect them with heat shrink.
*You may need to extend the wires length during installation.

You could also use the stock mounting bracket as well. You would need to shave off some of plastic on the mirror mounting slot with a Dremel-like tool.

I would recommend sticking with stock mirrors instead. They may not look that great to some, but the functionality and durability is a lot better imho.
