To quote a post from last November in the old shocks? (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5701) thread:

Quote from: KerryChaparral still has the Progressives for $46.99.  Type the part number 377-1128 into the Search box and go.

For confirmation on this being the right part for the GS500E, see the old thread I wanna upgrade my gs a little bit.

Oh, and I just checked.  The price is still the same.  Killer deal!

They transform it into a completely different bike.  There's that much of a difference. :thumb:

Wahoo!!! :)  :)  :)
My new progressive springs are in and being bathed in fresh fork oil. I went for a little test ride and despite several emergency stops I could not bottom the forks out. :thumb:

Congratulations John!  Welcome to the club.

Where did you end up getting your springs?  How would you rate the price, service, etc?

What brand/weight of oil did you put in?

And now for the big question: Did you take everything apart, or just replace the oil somehow?

I got the springs from Chapperal for $56 shipped. The darn things showed up the day after I ordered them.  :thumb: I guess Chapperal is not that far.
I went with Honda 10wt fork oil. I only weigh a 130 pounds and it is what the dealer had in stock.
No, I did not take it all apart. Maybe, I will do the full monty when the seals need replacing.
I just removed the forks and springs and compresed the forks over and over and let them drain. I think I got about 95% of the oil out but not all. When I went to refill them I only poured in 360 something ML before it was 99mm from the top. If the forks were completely empty I should have been able to put in 382 ML. The old oil looked pretty rough. It was almost black with just barely a red tint to it and it seemed a bit sludgier than the new oil.
You guys were not exagerating about the improved handling that those springs make.

was it hard to take off the forks??...

No, the whole job took less than three hours from beginning until clean up. If you have to change the seals it will take longer because I only removed the spacer, spring and washer. I have heard the most difficult part of a full dismantle is getting that bottom allen screw off. Most recomend a air rachet with lots of tourqu to spin it fast enough. Others have found alternatives. Like compressing the forks while turning the bolt or inserting a tool from the top to secure the top of the bolt.

do you need a torque wrench???
and what did you use for the spacers???

A torque wrench would be good but not nessecary. (Don't sue if you break a bolt). ;) A 1/2 inch rachet is required for loosening the tops of the forks. Just stick it in without a socket and it works great.
For spacers I used 3/4 inch PVC pipe but you can cut your stockers. Sorry, I dont remember the diameter because I bought them a while ago.
