Title: Fuel lines
Post by: krsa2000 on July 16, 2014, 12:49:10 PM
What is the OEM size fuel line (in mm)?
I've seen different sizes mentioned on the forum...

8mm sounds about right. 5/16 fuel hose ends up working although a bit tight.

8mm 5/16 id.     - 11.5mm 7/16 od. is the spec size but impossible to get this thinner wall hose (at least it was for me)

the motion pro hose is a little thicker but works well - good quality Need around 1.5m for whole bike including tank drain etc.

Always kind of a tough one to answer - As the tank petcock is a smaller fitting than the frame petcock and both sizes are metric fittings (I think tank is 6mm and frame is 8mm, but not certain) - and you buy an imperial size of fuel line in the U.S. (i.e. 1/4", or 5/16") to try to cover the middle ground.  Truth is neither will fit perfectly, but either will work - and you must use hose clamps regardless of sizes.  Only 'perfect fit' for this part is OEM, but many folks (including myself) just pick a size (1/4" or 5/16") and it works.

I used 1/4" tygon, but it is a stretch on the frame petcock. Tygon stretches really well without worry of tearing.

Whatever you decide just make sure it is suitable for gravity fed systems, and not too thick for them to fit together on the tank petcock.

Understood!
I have an abundance (10m+) of 8mm fuel line & clamps.
It's for high pressure systems, but it's the outerbraided thin wall type so should fit...

Why is it practically impossible to buy real 8 mm fuel line here in the US?  I'm anal, and wanted something I knew would work, so I went with OEM lines.  They are expensive though if you have to buy all of them (which I did).  Next time I will buy something else.  Really wish I could find the OEM type 8mm in bulk.
