Title: Motorcycle crash video (not me)
Post by: cWj on July 30, 2014, 12:13:35 AM
A snippet of this was posted on RideApart.com. I'm a bit surprised they didn't post the whole video. Interesting watch. No gore or anything.

The video isn't working for me, but being that RideApart is my homepage, I bet I've seen it. Great page they have over there! Wish Wes was still writing for them, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

Works now.

Damn not much the poor guy could have done besides leap off the bike when the idiot came at him. Distracted driver.
A good reminder to expect them EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

I hope the rider will be ok.  Not sure how bad it got his leg.  He did go a little deep into the intersection before he stopped.  Might have been prevented if he stopped behind the crosswalk.  I'm obviously not blaming him, because the truck driver was clueless at most definitely to blame here.

Who said "What the F**k is wrong with that guy?" at 4:47?     Seriously...  The lack of tact some people have.

I wonder what the driver was doing.  Target fixation or just plain ignorance?  Either way, bad driver, lucky it wasn't more serious for the rider like a concussion or something.  ATGATT

Having crash videos publicly available is a wonderful tool if applied to your own riding style.  I'm extremely weary of people pulling out on me, but never thought someone taking a turn way too tight would ever be a threat.  I'll now be extra cautious when I'm in the left turn lane at a major intersection or at a stop like that...

The most amazing crash I've ever seen is this one:

Always check your rear when slowing and stopping, kids.

As many pointed out on RideApart, it seems like a likely case of the "A-pillar blind spot" combined with corner-cutting by the truck.

The rider, however, displays some squidishness up to the point, and did not respect the stop sign stop BEFORE, not next to the stop sign.

I find the reaction of EMS personnel to the presence of the helmet-cam as interesting as the rest of the vid.

Granted, that intersection was confusing and seemed a bit under construction (hand-painted crosswalk.

I think it was the rider talking to the police officer about the driver of the truck

Ah, that would make more sense...

Good job to the guy who got to him right away, told him not to get up and told the girl to call 911 - it's often a reaction to want to jump up and see how the other person involved / your bike is (assuming you physically can.)

All in all it seemed to be very quick response time from police and EMS. Glad this was on video to hold the right person liable.
