Hey guys so earlier when i was riding home from work i noticed a clicking/knocking sound but i have a rear plastic piece that is kinda loose so i didnt pay any mind. The. I went out to my bike to leave and had to warm her up. I turned the choke on and didnt notice it at first then i heard it. It never made that sound ever since i got her. It is not noticeable at idle. On when u start going into the 3 grand and up area. Then it is really noticBle. I also have had the same issue of me holding in the clutch and it randomly turns off at times. Not as often as when my valves were tight. I did change my valve shims a couple of months ago and she has been riding great until now. I dont notice too much in her riding badly. She seems to ride pretty much like she has been. Witch is good. She dont feel like she sputters. She may feel a bit down on power but not much. Could the shims be bad again? I made a mistake when changing them and didnt get a good shim size for each one. (What i mean by that is they had clearence in all of them so they were not cazy tight but i didnt calculate them right to get small enough for a long time no change type thing) could i have broken a valve or something? Any help is appreciated!
It is also due for an oil change very soon. It has been about 4000 miles since the last change. My friend said it can run to 5000 before a change but idk bout that. But he had a bike alot longer than me so i kinda takin his word for it. I thought it could also be the oil is not lubercating the valves propperly or there is not enough oil. I know cars will sometimes do that if the rocker arms and valves are not propperly lubercated with oil. Jus thought i would throw that in there. Didnt know if it could be the same.
Well, I wouldn't go to 5000miles between oil changes on a GS... Suzuki recommends every 4k miles or one year. I think most folks go up to about 3000miles between changes - I personally, went to 2500miles when I was using dino oil, 3k once I made the switch to synthetic and doing long highway rides this year. Oil would also need to be changed at least once a year if it doesn't hit the mileage interval. The interval really depends on the type of riding, conditions, and the oil you are using.
If it has been 4000miles since you have even looked at the oil level - that's probably the issue and its low on oil - Oil level needs to be checked at every other tank of gas, religiously. These bikes are air cooled and the oil level will go down as get closer to the change interval - especially if you are riding for long periods at higher rpms. The GS Achilles heel is low oil situations - any engine doesn't fare well with low oil, but the GS is prone to bearing failures with this situation, and it will render the engine into a huge paperweight.

You don't get oil leaks more easily using synthetic? I'm frequently replacing gaskets with all my GS500s using dino oil.
I think that is a bit of a myth in some regard. If you have existing oil leaks, it might make them worse - I could possibly see that angle... But otherwise, a sealed engine is a sealed engine no matter what oil is in there. I'm sure oil manufacturer sites can explain the concern better than I. I know I've read through it on a manufacturer site before that produces all types (dino, semi, and full synth). Read up before I made the switch because I've heard of these concerns before, and after I did that my concerns were at ease. :whisper: Knock on wood, but I haven't had an oil leak on any of my vehicles...

So i did oil change and it seemed to have gone away. But then i got on it a little and now it sounds worse. =/ its like a clicking/tinging sound now where the top of the valves are.
Have you done a valve check recently? If not, they could be out of spec. Mine made a terrible racket until I adjusted the valves.
