What the title says, lol......
the choke lever wouldn't move, the bike started fine and idled at 1200 but i didn't know why in the hell it wouldn't budge. so i gave it a little too much force and now i believe it's stuck open as the bike now idles at 4 and 5k........................ yeah. the engine started smoking after 30 seconds and i immediately cut it off.
what did i do and what do i do now?
Your best bet is to pull the tank and take a look. Following the cable is fairly easy. Let us know what you see. Got any more details or history on the operation of the choke control?

tbh, everything was working fine until today. i kept EVERYTHING lubed up and cleaned at all times. i just did a deep clean and wax of outside of the bike with meguiars motorcycle detailing kit, sprayed the bug and tar remover on things, cleaned things up reaaaaaaal nice.
pull the tank?.. i've never done this, but i'll take a look in the clymer manual on how to do this.
Of all the steps getting the tank off, make sure you shut off the petcock mounted to the tank bottom or the spilled gas will ruin that wax job.
what is it that i'm looking for exactly? follow the idle cable from the handlebar and see if it's connected at the end? or what. i mean, it's got to be that the cable is broken, right?
Hrrm. .. maybe the choke lever end stuck?, undo the little screw holding the little silver plate in place on the underside of control cluster, make sure the little black plastic wedge bit and the little spring is in one piece and oriented correctly and/or there's no other obstruction/substance jamming the rotation of the choke lever?
I haven't been able to check it out yet, i've been having to work doubles 6am-10pm days for the past few days. would any idle cable be fine for a replacement? or is there a specific one to get?
