Title: gap between headlight and housing?
Post by: joweaver88 on August 20, 2014, 07:13:52 PM
Is there supposed to be about about a .5 cm gap between the headlight and the outer ring part of the enclosure? This is how mine is but it seems like there should be a rubber grommet there. I mean rain and water off the road that hits the headlight is going to get funneled right into where the wiring harness connects to... well a bunch of stuff. Unless its designed to allow airflow to cool the bulb?

idk you tell me...

If I remember correctly mine has the same gap, wouldn't be too worried about it!

Did you include a pic in your first post?  I ask because some pics on this forum don't show for me while I am at work.  I just had my whole headlight assembly apart recently... I wanted to get rid of all the rust inside the housing, repaint it and install a new chrome ring (mine was pretty dinged up from the PO).  I took note that I had all the parts shown on the diagram when I was ordering my new ring and other bits.  I could compare yours to mine and see if they look the same or not  :thumb:

Ok... here is how mine looks.  It looks to be the same as yours so I'd say you're all good!  Perhaps it is to let air in... but unfortunately (judging by all the rust that was in my headlight bucket) it certainly does serve as a trap for water too  :icon_sad:

The rust in there drove me nuts when I saw it so I actually soaked the bucket in Evaporust, sanded it, primed it and then painted the inside with truck bedliner to hopefully prevent it from getting that bad ever again  :icon_mrgreen:  Here is a before and after!
