Title: 1997 gs500e where the hell does tach cable connect to engine
Post by: Fearthepack on August 23, 2014, 02:46:27 PM
I have an 1989 gs500 and I can see where it connects, but the same spot on the 1997 is cast in the engine but not tapped. Anyone?

That part did not change till 01 or even later actually, more like 04. You sure your motor is an 97 ?
Cool.

Yeah, that's a newer engine.  They went to an electronic tach at some point, and used a blocking plug to cover the hole until the castings were used up. Then they quit drilling the hole later on. I would recommend yo get an electronic tach.

89-02 were mech tachs and 04-09 were elec tachs on US models, not sure about 03 models sold abroad.  Both my 97 and 02 were/are mechanical drive tachs.

Well the frame and title is a 1997. Does the engine have a number indicating a build date? I will have to look at wiring harness for possible plug for electronic tach.
