Now I make no bones about my feeling that forums with many areas are less interesting and I like GStwin to have as few forums as possible.  I feel that a mix of OT and GS threads make the board better seeing there are only about 30 messages per day.

So I say I like the old setup with a for sale area, Meet & Greet, and this Main forum and thats all.

What say you people?

if it stays like this, it means that there will be a lot of posts, topics and lots of people coming to the fame forum and that's a great thing, but i come here for the GS related stuff and only sometimes read and respond to OT topics...

anyway is good for me because this way there is a lot of posts and people on this board but i think if you create a Off Topic board, the amont of topics and reply's will drop...but maybe i'm wrong....

i think that like this the people that need info can just come to the main forum and find what they are looking for quickly without having to go through all the stuff that has nothing to do with the GS.

I'm a fan of the old setup.  I liked scanning one section for interesting posts each time I logged in, and maybe for-sale and meet-n-greet once a week or so.  John, don't let 'em convince you to split up the board too much.. I'm a member at r6-forum.com and there are about 25 discussion threads there  :bs:   from "exhaust and fuel systems" to "safety gear"... each forum gets about one post a day, and some even less than that

oh well.. times change... so be it.

I like having an OT section.

That way you can ignore the BS if you dont' feel like getting into it and the treads I AM interested in won't go down the page as fast.

I'm definately in favor of the new OT section. Although I only registered here recently, I was a long time lurker and thought the signal to noise ratio was getting pretty bad in the last month or so.

Hey Joe (song there somewhere) winter withdrawal man! don't be too hard on us.

OK, I hadn't attributed it to "winter withdrawal", but I can understand. I also follow some rock climbing and whitewater forums and I guess they drift a bit more in the winter.

On the other hand, I would hate for this forum to degenerate into something like rec.motorcycles which is irrelevant.

I for one like the eclectic mix on one forum, especially in the winter months when bike-related issues naturally take a back seat to OT stuff.  Of course, there is no harm in trying this format out to determine if our opinions change, especially when riding season for most of us begins.

Of course I put that before I noticed there is a new area

the reasoning for the new forum was as ppl said.. it gets cluttered.

I dont think we have a need for any other new forum... 4 is plenty.

I felt I was getting stuck reading the joke posts.. WHile it was nice to have a mix of gs and ot posts it was a nightmare to find something.

In the long run you will like point of keeping ot posts out of GD.

I vote to skip the OT forum and give a special jokes forum to 96gs and pizzleboy...

Do a search.  My reason for having one forum was for two and 1/2 reasons:

1. I hated the fractured feel of other boards.  Pkus OT forums invite post whoring.

2.  at an average of 20 to 30 new posts a day with one main forum I see little need to split it into two.  I also feel it waters down the group.  All eyes look to the main forum and with the search feature it makes looking for topics a bit easier.

Honestly I am strongly considering going back to the old way.  I was actually on another forum yesterday, before I found about this test here, and saw all kinds of moved messages and was saying to myself how much I hated it and was glad I did not have that here.  Having slept on it, I am more even strongly against an OT forum now.  I have always been steadfast about this. Do a search on my comments about this in previous suggestions.

I would rather allow people to post polls OVER having a new forum.  This is just winter venting.  Almost every bike board goes through this in winter.  PLUS the few OT offenders (you know the ones) can be asked to tone it down a little even though they are just suffering from winter madness.

So will you all hate me if I revert the board back to one forum?  I hope not.  Would allowing people to make polls ease the pain?

I don't care aboout polls despite what I said earlier. I am with James in that it is nice to be able to scan the General posts and skip the OT crap when in a hurry.

I like the new way... but yea I understand the fractured forums, inviting post whores issue.  Just look at gixxer.com, what a mess!  I kind of like having OT posts seperated, although once us people in the colder climates are riding again, we should have more bike stuff to talk about.

Just for a second opinion, my fiance says one forum for all discussion is the way to go  :)

I like just one Main forum. I would rather see everything in one place over going back and fourth between boards.

I also voted before I realized that there was another board lurking about.

I like 1 big board, as you don't need to browse and browse and browse to keep up with things.

Sorry for the mixed up vote.

I've been involved in may boards in my day (what am I, 80?), and this is BY FAR, the best one ever.

People answer these forums quickly, accurately, and there really is a LOT of friendship and helping of other people.  I have gone to other boards, where you can leave a question up for 3-4 days without a response.

I am guilty of filling the boards with jokes along with 96gs, not for post whoring reasons, but because I genuinely enjoy bringing a little light hearted-ness to these boards.

Anyways, the point is that I like one big board.

Nope, I wouldn't hate you. Ban the thought! But, I can't speak for everyone else, so if you can tolerate a little despise...

Guys, you are blowing this way outta proportion. We're only talking about adding ONE more board, not 25. IMO I would like to add one more board for OT discussions. So what if you have to scan one more board each day. I'ts not like its going to kill ya is it?

Besides, I've been noticing a definite increase in "OT" posts. Sometimes I just want to cut to the chase :? , and sometimes I just want to laugh  .

Making the boards OT or not OT limits what you can bring up.  Even if it's winter, I think posting might be going down in number since the split. :(

If I was going to suggest, the OT board should just be for non-motorcycle related stuff.  Talking about motorcycles should be on the main board.  Talking about the merits of a YZF600 or going to the motorcycle show I would say is on topic, since replies relating to the GS wiggle their way in :)  Unfortunately, that would cause the the OT board to become really irrelevant.

As the number of posts on a board get bigger, obviously it will get more difficult to pinpoint the info you need, even while searching.  *grin* I have a really bad idea that I will not volunteer for... maybe make an archive section for wrenching with posts categorized by brakes, carbs, etc.

So I'd put my vote towards having it the old way, unless the main board category was defined more loosely.
