Title: New Exhaust System and Clutch Question
Post by: DatRonRider on August 30, 2014, 03:33:12 PM
Thinking of getting this system, seems fairly priced includes all gaskets and what not. Anyone got any feedback on this?

Also, How can you tell the difference between clutch cable stretch and general clutch adjustment?
My clutch is alright 90% of the time but every so often it seems to "Drag" at lights, especially on the center stand. If it hit a bump while accelerating the revs climb but I don't go any quicker. It's gotta be the clutch plates, right?

I'm riding a 2005 K5 GS500E with 21,000 miles on the clock. I bought in April with about 16k.

I've got the same pipes. They're alright I suppose. That tip is probably a lot better than the one I have. It makes kind of a high pitched noise because of the carbon resonating.

As for the clutch, it's probably better that it's loose, in my opinion. The clutch play is very thin, but I find it's easier to loosen the clutch lever about 1-1.5cm because it's easier to feel the clutch.

Maybe your problems are just because of your riding style, because I've found the clutch on these bikes to be very hard to get used to because the clutch play is so thin. Combine that with a very tight front suspension and sometimes you can find your hands getting jerked around as you take off or go over bumps.

Thanks man, that looks sweet!

Any time I hit a bump though my revs climb and I don't accelerate any faster.. is that a sign for new plates?

Do a 3 point clutch adjustment first as described in the Shop Manual, must have correct clutch rod free play to get proper clutch action.

Im saving up for same, well similar exhaust for my project bike. but i want this one as it seems to be BSAU Approved so shouldn't draw to much notice form the constabulary (law can be an arse here in the UK.. EU can be even worse and i do intend on touring the continent on this bike)

I want to fit this, a K&N Lunchbox, clean up the ports, regrind my valves and clean and rejet my carbs.. with oem mikuni ones if possible. so any guidance on what jets i will need to order up to work with the K&N filter and this exhaust would be appreciated.

No, but this guy does, I think. It's similar, anyway.

I'll have a go tomorrow, because that video doesn't really do it justice. It's got a real bang to it when you rev it up a narrow street. I sometimes think it's a little bit of a hazard because people try to race me at the lights quite often.
