Hello i'm looking to replace my air filter. On most of these posts i see a'lot of people use the "lunch box" filter (K&N lunchbox filter (RU-2970)... I also see this one is available (K&N SU-5589) which should i use? will it make any difference? 2005 Gs500F
the Lunchbox is a complete airfilter replacement.
The other one (SU-5589) is an filter element replacement.
If i were you, and you dont want to reject, or work on your carbs a bit in the future, i'd go for the SU-5589. I believe you get a restrictor with this filter, wich allows you to just plug and play, rather then having to rejet. I dont know if K&N provides this though, so it may be needed that you buy a separate restrictor with it.
Honestly Keeljay, it's up to you. Like Krav said, the lunchbox filter requires a jetting upgrade, while the stock filter w/ restriction insert does not.
Want to learn your carbs very intimately? Get the lunchbox filter.
Thanks! i ended up using the SU-5589. The only issue i had was the screws from the stock filter. They were too short so due to the K&N filter being thicker.
I also used the standard K&N replacement element. Mine did come with the restrictor, as well as the longer bolts for mounting.
