Title: loose rpm gauge
Post by: LocalGuyLawnCare on September 03, 2014, 07:40:11 AM
sorry about this I seen a post like this but cant find it again

Any ways my rpm gauge is loose and both bolts are tight. Is there any way to fix this with out buying a new one? It works fine just vibrates when riding.

The rubber ring below the dial compresses and then gives more play than supposed to have, maybe a ring of felt or an oring under the meter?

The studs that hold the gauge in are shouldered so the nut tightens against the shoulder of the bolt. I stacked a washer that are larger than the shoulder under each nut to snug things up..

I suppose you could buy new rubbers for the gauges.. but that cost $!

I think I know which thread you were thinking of... here is what I replied in that one, maybe it will help you!

My tach came loose a few months back... I checked the acorn nuts on the back of the black gauge housing and they were tight.  When I took the gauge housing off, I noticed 2 philips screws on the bottom of the white housing on the actual tach had come loose and fallen out (they were laying in the bottom of the black gauge housing yay!).  I put them back in, tightened them up, and that fixed my tach from bouncing all around.  Hope that helps!!

My gauges use to rattle a ton so I went to home depo and bought the double window or door insulation strip. It's cross section looks like B. it had a peel of sticky side and using a small screwdriver I tucked one half below the gauge bracket. Has stopped all racket.
