Title: Fuel tank 89GS
Post by: Blueknyt on September 19, 2014, 06:08:18 PM
ok, I seem to have lost the brain cells that had this info stored and for somereason the search isnt panning out for me.   I need to know, do all the GS500 E/F fuel tanks mount the same? IE, my 89 tank is bad inside, my spare tank is very rough inside, will a newer tank from mid 2000 or even newer F models fit on the 89 frame and seat?  i dont care about F body work as im gonna keep it a naked bike.    the second Question who has a tank they can part with cheaply?

I believe the tanks do mount the same, but the seats differ because of the style of the newer tanks. The newer ones have the wrap-around diddly-bits.

anyone have both seats to show the diff? if its just a small gap using new tank on older E model i can live with it.   if newer tank interferes with older seat, how and by how much?

would also seem the newer tanks dont have the Ear tabs for the early side plastics.  damn, i dont wanna put newer sides and tail on. hmmmm, some scrap sheet alum and epoxy for new tabs perhaps?  unless my eyes are screwd, both style tanks look about the same where the seat meets.

I went searching for a specific thread and can't find it... BUT I found these other two that may help you out!

Cool i can rought up underside of tank, make some tabs with a flat and epoxy the tab to the bottom of the tank for 89 side plastic lugs.  Now i just need a tank.
