Title: 89 GS500e running too rich and dies when given throttle.
Post by: eliaslay on September 20, 2014, 04:05:49 PM
HELP ME! I recently replaced a piston and both sets of rings on my bike. I also replaced the battery and the gaskets on the top half of my engine. I also tried cleaning my carbs. It was a project for me but I bought it from someone who had stored it for 3 or 4 years. Now I can get it to start and it sounds like it idles fine but when I give it gas it immediately dies. The exhaust is coming out grey and smells like gas. How do I fix this? And what could be wrong with it? Thanks.

Check the float levels.

Check the choke lever (on the carbs, not on the handlebars), maybe it's stuck in the "open" position.
