Title: Reverse shift position?
Post by: NiagaraRider on October 11, 2014, 01:45:41 PM
I'm just wondering if anyone has modded the shift position from 1down 5up to 1up 5down or 6 down. Been thinking about it, and I just think it'd be much easier to shift like that. Also, I like standing out from the crowd!

Try it and see if you like it? A lot of guys I know do it on their track bikes  :dunno_black:

Only use to it is you can shift up even while being leaned over so hard you wouldn't risk reaching under the lever with your foot.
Do you do that often?

Well I want to get into tracking the bike to learn to race, so I assume I'd be leaning hard on it, though not right away. I also forgot to ask if anyone knew how to go about it because I'm not sure how to change it.

Soooo..down would be up, and up would be down...what could possibly go wrong? :dunno_black:

You have a lot of free time eh?

Well it's not really what you are looking for but here is a way to change your shifting:

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&node=15684181&keywords=heel+toe+shifter+lever&tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=31812926336&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9908454448259440745&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_3rf1xgm4ks_b

I've had them on bikes before.  They are nice if you don't have a lot of toe room or have to wear steel toe boots to work.

Another option is to put on GSXR or similar rearsets. That will give you a better position for tucking in, and allow you to easily swap the shift pattern due to the shift linkage.

I saw someone on here with a katana shifter and linkage with a reverse (gp shift?) setup. if I remember correctly he just drilled a hole to mount the shifter and extended the tie rod so that he could flip the shifter knuckle.

or you could put on different rearsets. I have cbr rearsets, getting everything together to install the shifter and linkage, unsure if I'm gonna go reverse though...

I put some stock pegs/brackets etc from my 93 gsxr750 with minimal work, and the shift linkage allowed me to flip the shift pattern for my race bike.
