quick question guys, does a 96 GS E have a rev limiter? in all honesty i've never revved it past 7-8k on idle, and tbh i dont want to test it out just incase it hasn't haha because knowing my luck ill try and ill break somthing haha.
I believe none of the models have a rev limiter. Read it somewhere on the wiki I believe.
Yeah I thought I read that somewhere too! Your're right jtl216... I found it just to be sure, towards the bottom of the page:

A question I have been wondering for a while now and might as well post it here... has anyone ever put one on a GS? :icon_question:
im not too sure, i would really love one though, but i found this on youtube, thought it sounded like a rev limiter?
Omg yeah... at 1:03 and 1:05 it does sound like one... I wonder if it is?
By chance, did you type 'rev limiter' into the search bar on here? I didn't even think to do that until now... I will hafta look and see what I find 8)
This thread is an interesting read on the subject...

AFAIK, none of the GS500s have a rev limiter. There are however aftermarket rev limiters, including 2-stage units which provide launch control capabilities.
The real Rev limiter is in your MIND...
(wooooOOOOOOooooo)
just pretend i have one haha at about 10k ill let my wrist spasm hahaha
what may sound like a limiter could be someone working the throttle or perhaps minor valve float. Never saw the need for one. These engines are durable. Nearly bullet proof. Kinda the chevy 350s of the moto world. Or the ford 300 il 6, or jeep straight 6. I mention those cause you have to try REALLY hard to mess one up
No rev limiter. .. I've accidentally bumped or bashed it past 11k more than a few times, it just kinda starves for power and bobbles the revs a little but not like a computer controlled engine.....
more of a gulp/burp/cough because you are revving the fun bags off it and fuel delivery/airflow just can't go much more? .... or the valves/cam are having their teeth shaken out!..
Despite many threads and recommendations about never needing to rev past 8.5k or something (because that's peak power) .. I regularly go to 10k because I feel that AFTER the gear change that the revs are more in the meat of the power. .. just my personal preference though and not on topic. ...
You will not likely kill the engine instantly if you bounce it on redline a lot... but constant/frequent actions of same are gonna give your engine a bad time mmmkay!
Best thing is better wrist control and awareness of how hard you are pushing the bike.... something that I think every rider is constantly working on! :)
