Title: 2008 GS500 re-connecting unknown hoses.
Post by: Widget on October 22, 2014, 01:01:42 AM
hi guys,

Took the carbs out to clean the jets(?) and trying to put everything back together, I can't remember where 2x of the hoses connect to :\. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

[EDIT] also, on another note, the screws that screw down the top of where the jets are, they're little phillips head screws, does anyone have details on them or recommend replacing them with somthing else? I stripped mine trying to get them to unscrew :\

For your hoses, this page helped me out a lot:

As for those screws, buddha sells replacements with an allen (hex?) head that are much better (based on what I've heard from other users).

thanks Mennobike :)

Had a look at the link, still a little confused... looks like (in the diagram linked) the hose running from frame mounted petcock says "Outlet hose to lower 'T' connection".. though i can't see any spots to connect the hose to :\

Based on what I'm seeing it's #3 and #7 in those pictures above the diagram.

I hope this helps, those hoses are a PAIN to work with!  :cookoo:

The link mennobike posted above is for 89-00 GSs, there are 3 different frame petcocks used on GSs and diagrams in parts fiches have never been right so I put this together a few years ago:

Sorry I'm not familiar in detail with the 04-09 F model plumbing I've had/have 97 and 02 GSs.  The line to the carbs from the frame petcock connects to a T between the carbs, maybe a look at the parts fich carb parts will help:

The short hose labeled with a red ? on the upper portion of the photo goes to the top of the air box, not the hose connected to the carbs. The one from the carbs is just a breather hose. The hose with the red ? on the bottom of the image is the vacuum tube that goes from he petcock to the right carb. there should be a little angled metal connection point, there is also one on the left carb but this should be plugged by a little black cap. That unknown item is just to help with the vacuum priming, that hose connects to the hose assemble on the right side of the carbs.

If you need more detail i can try and dig up some pictures of my bike

:technical: Sorry about that, I forgot that the hoses aren't universally routed.

Nice diagrams, Jack!
