Seeing as the copyright on the manual ending in 2008, thus making it a free domain resource. I am legally allowed to create a digitally copy of it, and share it. So no harm has been done. Besides its not a repair manual, its just the owners manual. and with no copy right left on it, its public material now. I thought this forum was about helping people. If you don't want a digital copy, then don't download it. Your loss  :cookoo:

Interesting, most companies offer online owners manuals for free. I looked on Suzuki's website and they charge $20 for an electronic copy.

I had to look to be sure, but I can get a download for FREE for my Yamaha FZ6 off of Yamaha's Website.

Oh yeah they can charge you for anything, but since the copyright is up. they no longer have legal rights to be the sole owner of the document. So anyone can now make a digital copy. and if you read it, it says the manual is considered a part to the bike, so since I own the bike I also own the rights to the manual and with the copy right up I have full rights to upload it :)

Thanks slug, enjoy!

I'm not an expert on copyright law and I'm not clear on what you're looking at to get the 2008 expiration date, but it seems really unlikely that the copyright on an F model manual expired while the bike was still in production.  My understanding is that copyrights typically are many decades.

Owner's manuals are a dime a dozen...so no loss.

They sell maintenance manuals on the GS twin site to make a couple bucks so they don't want people giving away these...and there are copyright issues with publishing things on the internet.

If you look hard enough, you can find ANYTHING on the internet....but if you are going to create copyright issues or step on others toe's, just don't blab about it here and get the site in trouble.

They change service manuals all the time, the one I posted clearly states copyright till 2008, and when checked with copyright that anyone can look up, heck you can go to a library to check a copyright it was up. The models from 98-2006 are no longer protected. I wasn't stepping on toes or anything like that. The site won't get in trouble, nor will anyone else, but people complain or make accusations without doing a few seconds of research so I just took it down. If anyone wants its PM me. If you own a GS500 you have rights to a OWNERS manual anyways lol.

Mmmm, I downloaded a copy of a GS500F Owners Manual an Aussie member posted here a while back.  Have one from my 97 GS but didn't get one for my 02 bought slightly used.

Not to be confused with shop/repair manuals which John (the board owner) frowns upon since we get some revenue from the Clymer and Haynes bought thru the Amazon link.

John has delete other repair manual links when he sees them but you won't be hanged for it.  :icon_lol:

The concern is that copyright infringement is illegal.  While it's unlikely that Suzuki would do anything more than ask for it to be taken down, if they were to pursue legal action the people who run the board could share liability.  If someone wants to pass out copies on the street corner, that's on him.  What's uncool is to expose the board to liability, and that's why board moderators frown on this sort of thing.

As such you did the right thing by taking it down and I expect that as soon as the moderators all download a copy of the manual, they'll delete the link in the twocool's quote box.
