Title: Another Headlight Post?! Yep, new to the board question
Post by: JM500 on October 23, 2014, 07:32:38 PM
 :cookoo:

first off I realize that i may be crazy to ask, but I have a couple straight questions that all my lurking and searching just haven't helped yet. I 'll make it quick....please don't hurt me:

1. Yes I want to convert my F to and E. I have a 2006. I am looking for original brackets but it may take me while to get them so could I temporarily use some universal ones? Are they gunna hold a light? and stay on forks etc. If yes...what size is ideal to match forks?

2. point me in the direction of the exact specs of the headlight electrical needs/limitations. I would really like to get a 7 inch round with the integrated turn signals in it...like this:

but I am unsure of what exact electrical specs/connections I need to have/look out for.

3. where can i find elec specs and diagrams for bike lighting

thank you all for the wealth of info here!

I don't have any original headlight brackets but I do have a new set of universal ones I'm not using—PM me if you're interested. The GS500 fork size is 37mm so anything on ebay/amazon/wherever that fits those sizes will work.

The headlight you linked has the standard 3-prong connector and wires for the turn signals so they'll connect with no issue. But bear in mind that further modification (electronic flasher relay or resistors, etc..) may be needed to get the LEDs to actually function correctly. They'll plug in but not sure if they'll be plug-and-play. Any electrical diagrams for the bike can be found in either a Haynes or a Clymer manual. Definitely a good investment to buy one if you're going to do more work on your bike!
