Title: Wiring Harness Woes
Post by: exia94 on October 30, 2014, 10:24:51 AM
Hey guys,

Little info on the bike before I explain my problem. I'm going to be as thorough as possible so bear with me please. I like to think of myself as mechanically inclined, but not electrically inclined in the least. Bike is a 1992 with 13k miles. Previous owner let it sit for a long time. I bought it as a project to work on in my spare time. When I bought it, it pretty much came the frame, motor, wheels, and wiring. I'm at the point now where I'm ready to try and start it to see how the motor runs before I go any further into restoring it. However, I'm having a bit of an electrical problem. I can't get the motor to turn over. So far, to try and isolate the problem, I have bypassed the clutch switch and sidestand switch. I've also spliced a new connector for the sidestand relay and replaced the relay as the old connector was extremely burnt. When the two sidestand switch wires are connected, the speedometer light comes on, but then there is suddenly no power to the kill switch or starter button wires (just wires, I took the right control off), which just baffles me. I have a new battery and starter solenoid. The green/white and brown wires coming from the ignition control unit have no power coming out of them to the pulse generator, but the black/blue one does. Headlight does not get power when key is turned (don't know if this is relevant). Regulator gets power. Starter motor works. All other lights are disconnected. I'm at the point where I'm debating replacing the entire wiring harness, but that would be expensive so I'd rather not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

http://ebay.com/itm/231373955408 (http://ebay.com/itm/231373955408) $29.95.  You'd have to doublecheck the differences (if any) between the 91 and 92 harnesses, but that's pretty darn cheap.
