okay i had recently locked the engine up on my 2008 gs500f and i am going to replace it with another gs500. i want to turn the gs into a track bike and i just want to know if anybody have any recommend of mods/stuff i should use/re,ove from the bike to make it into a track bike. also any good performance parts/ exhaust anybody can recommend as well
Step one is suspension.
The GS suspension leaves a lot to be desired.
Swap the front end with a bigger sports bike front end. (Gsxr, CBR, zx6r) and I mean the whole front end.
Then rear shock. Depending on how much you weigh you can go with the R6, Kat 600, sv650, or gsxr shocks.
Then worry about power. Get the K&N lunch box, exhaust of your choice, and a jet kit.
Now work on ground clearance. Your stock rear sets scrape pretty quickly while leaning. Check the threads here to see what rear sets can be adapted to the GS.

A cheaper / less time consuming option to the front end would be to add heavier springs and emulators - I believe Racetech sells the emulators. Although I think member burning1 was selling a complete front end swap that had already been adapted to the GS500 - so you might check the For Sale section on that one! ... guess it depends on how serious you want to get into it.
You'll also need to look into safety wiring, and possibly a drip pan (not sure what they call it - but a pan that runs below the bike to catch any oil that might drip sort of thing)... You can remove headlight and turn signals (associated switches and wiring too) to reduce weight along with most plastics, and add a lithium battery (though costly). You'll need good sticky track tires, may want to add case guards/sliders. Overflows on the tank and carbs need a drip reservoir.... race performance brake pads in the front and maybe back (exactly what will depend on your front end decisions)

addons like this make me drool lol. Or an option is performing a gr650 engine swap but youd have to make the exhaust exit out straight
well i finally stop being lazy and broke the engine down and it don't look good so got to replace the engine before anything

being that light weight, you can pick up some racetech or sonic springs and emulators.
but if you want to swap the entire front end you need everything. From the top triple to the wheel.
